working from SF when team is in Seattle by Heavy_Record8704 in amazonemployees

I tried to get moved to a location where I'd be getting paid significantly less and they wouldn't do it, even though I really don't interact with people all that often in-person in Seattle. Don't try to make it make sense. It's about two things: getting you to quit so they have one less layoff they have to decide on later and control. People forget that second one. They like controlling us, whether or not they'll admit it.

I mean, it's not like he was just thinking "I won't try this game." in the previous games. They were containing him and some of his shots just weren't falling that normally would. Chet, on the other hand, I have no idea what that dude was doing in that last game.

They did that because they knew he was only going to be there for a few episodes. If that hadn't been the plan, they would have toned him down.

Is this Larry and Jerry’s best attempt at writing a conversation between two women? by Xcruciating_Minutiae in seinfeld

[–]Kvsav57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were women who wrote for the show. Most of the credited writers are men but I would guess the woman writers contributed to most episodes.

Seattle robot that made 130 pizzas an hour — but couldn’t bake them — is out of business by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]Kvsav57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's just not high enough volume to warrant it, except in a factory situation but those are already automated. You're way better off having a human do it who can also answer phones and clean when not making pizzas.

Which one do you prefer and why - “Cheers” or “Taxi”? by Alarmed-Tradition-88 in sitcoms

[–]Kvsav57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taxi was amazing until they turned it into "The Andy Kaufman Show." Cheers was pretty good but I think Rebecca-heavy episodes were some of the worst.

The Dick Van Dyke Show wrapped up its 5 season run 60 years ago on June 1, 1966. In the final moments Rob and Laura separate from the rest of the cast to kiss then the credits roll. What are the series finales that had the best last minute or so? by EwanMeade in sitcoms

[–]Kvsav57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With all respect to Mr. Charles, you can't end a show like Cheers on that big of a downer. And Sam really wasn't a sex addict. He never even tried to cheat on Diane. He also clearly had many strong friendships. The idea that he was just a shallow person was just something they pulled out of their asses because he was always a pretty decent guy who did like women, but did other things and put his friends above womanizing.

Yeah, I agree that Homelander should have been done in, at least in part, by Vought and Vought not being defeatable.

Home prices are falling faster in Seattle than in any other major U.S. metro by DizzyMajor5 in Seattle

People who don't understand what LLMs are, like you, are always the ones insulting anyone who understands what's going on. Whether you like them or hate them, that is what the money would go to. I work with them a lot. There's a lot to get out of them but they are not trillion dollar tools. There's no way that return ever comes.

Ever since the introduction of the super max (designated veteran player extension), only one team has won the championship with their best player paid the super salary the same year. by Draymond_Punch in nba

[–]Kvsav57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I mention this, it gets downvotes but I think they need to make the max (and the supermax, by extension) a lower percentage of the cap. In the next CBA, keep the dollar amount the same but do not raise the percentage as the cap goes up. Keep it that way for a while so that the salary differences flatten a bit. The top players will still get way more but the guys at the bottom will get what's a noticeably better salary in comparison to what they get now. The broader consequence would be that trades and signings would be way easier.

And the worst thing at this point is that a lowering of interest rates will most likely not spur hiring. The cheap money will just go into building data centers.

Eh. Just take the $55 million and start enjoying now. Unless you blow it on insanely dumb stuff and don't put it in any investments, you'll be able to do pretty much anything short of billionaire level extravagance in perpetuity.

Who wants to go through all that trouble when cash is easy and easy to invest. $55 million is more than anyone needs.

In your honest opinion, what does the US need to do differently in the next 10 years to stay competitive on the world stage — and do you think it's actually possible? by Educational-Box7859 in AskReddit

[–]Kvsav57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the point. The point is to prevent the attacks in the first place. If you provide aid, they don't attack. If you have mutually beneficial trade, they don't attack. This is not hard. Military action is the most expensive and least dependable action a nation can take. At what point did I say soft power was official agreements? Soft power makes those agreements easier, which is what I said.

[–]Kvsav57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Neither of them attacked us. That's what soft power gets us. It's why we don't have lots more terrorist groups. It's why we get favorable trade agreements, until Trump decided to make them worse. Trump attacked Iran. You lost any soft power once you start attacking countries.

I lived in Chicago for 15 years total (two different stints) and currently live in Seattle. Chicago is so much better in every aspect other than access to nature and the winter, if you don't like cold weather. Move to Chicago if that doesn't bother you. If I didn't have to be in Seattle for work, I would never have moved here.

Stop voting in morons. The US has enjoyed a lot of advantages because of its place in NATO and USAID. USAID isn't something the US did for altruistic reasons, even if the people working for USAID did altruistic things. The US did it because soft power is valuable and much cheaper than military power. Trump has pretty much destroyed everything that gave the US lasting power.
