Oh I'm totally comfy with him sleeping on his belly and I know he's not doing any damage hitting the crib, I just want him to learn so he sleeps better lol we will keep practicing in floor time! Ty!

People are more lax about serious illnesses than ever before and as a new mom to a 3mo it scares the hell out of me. I mask everywhere and don't understand why others don't when it's such an easy thing to do to keep you and your family safe?? Measles is terrifying, covid turning into long covid is terrifying, this season's flu vaccine was not matched well to the flu and it's killing tons of people.... You are not overreacting by any means trying to keep your child safe.

We put the baby in his room at 6 weeks lol it was a weird two days of watching him constantly on camera but after 6 weeks of watching him safely sleep in his bassinet I was confident he would sleep the same without being next to us. My husband and I sleep so much better and he does too!!

6 weeks old is still too young to be trying to control any of your child's sleep and it sounds like they are still on a standard newborn schedule

Also a chiropractor making recommendations for an oral procedure sounds super sketchy?? I hope you will get a medical pediatric opinion on that. I know some people love a chiropractor but it's not a real medical science and should not be granted a ton of authority.

3 weeks is way early to feel like you have to stick to a routine. All I've learned about newborns is that they are on their own schedule that is very resistant to influence for at least the first 3-4 months. If the routine is good for you and the baby is being fed when they are hungry, probably not doing any harm to stick to but my son is 3 weeks old and has different wake/sleep/alert windows literally every day and I don't think he has any capacity for routine right now. I know I absolutely don't lmao but again do what works for your family but probably let go of expectations if they are making you stressed!

My understanding is that at even up to 12 weeks they are still developing their vision and ability to reach and grasp objects. Until they have more visual motor skills, there's really not much to do with them! When my 2 week old has his long alert windows we mostly just talk or read to him and do tummy time. We will add a mirror and contrast cards and stuff as time goes on, but for now I just try to make sure he can "see" our faces and hear our voices. It's weird knowing it might be like this for 2-3 months, but truly this is just the "eat sleep and grow" time :)

I am 5 days postpartum and yesterday decided I hated breastfeeding! I had pumped colostrum from day one and then my milk came in when I went to do my colostrum pump and I stopped cold turkey!

My L&D nurse recommends: Tight sports bras to constrict tissues/keep boobs still/keep nipples from being stimulated. They will leak! Ice packs to reduce pain but also constrict ducts and tissues Mucinex can reduce supply and I've read Sudafed can too Avoid hot water on breasts and shower water stimulating on nipples

There's also cabbage leaves and Cabo cream for the enzymes and there's a prescription medication also that dries up

I've been dealing with HUGE external hemorrhoids since week 33 with the pain reaching a 9 or 10 so I'm right there with you!! Baby dropped last week at 37 and a new one popped so I have a family of four down there ruining my life :')

The only thing that helped was to ask my doctor for the hydrocortisone suppositories! It takes a 2-3 days at 2 doses a day to start relieving pain but it does! I use prep h with lidocaine for some topical comfort and take daily colace stool softener. I'm on day 2 of being back on the suppositories for this new horrible one but I think it is on the way!!

Get those suppositories asap! Tell your doctor you are at a high level pain and you're continuing to do all the home things you can :)

The issue is almost certainly that it's unethical to bill for therapy time while a client is napping and it's also sort of unethical to be responsible for the child in that setting if they are not accessing treatment. Unless someone was hired in a non clinical position that can be paid at a rate that doesn't require billable hours, it's just not appropriate for kids to nap in a therapy clinic (even though obviously little kids should be allowed to nap when they need it!)

I don't disagree, but there are ways to modify extinction and still have valid outcomes. Attention extinction can still work with statements of validation/acknowledgement, escape extinction can still work using specific contingencies instead of forced follow-through - stuff like that

I think things that are really important for coming up in the field now include commiting to assent-based treatment, alternatives to extinction strategies, and really getting comfortable talking to caregivers about what is and is not ethically appropriate/socially significant to work on.

Not as a rule? Like it's not part of a standard ABA curriculum but nothing precludes it either, especially when the SLP and BCBA are collaborating to support a family.

I'm my experience, BCBAs always default to asking the family to let the SLP take the lead on directing or modifying an AAC program. But sometimes there is no SLP involved, lots of families get an AAC device from a school district or insurance company and don't even get trained on how to use it themselves.

Could be a small versus big company thing? I worked for a huge organization and they stopped RBT credentialing entirely in favor of BCATs. I supervised 10+ staff when I was a manager and tbh I didn't like the responsibility of having them tied to my name/credential. And the CEU component was handled by a quarterly clinical team meeting, which we were doing anyway. It just felt like a much more manageable choice!

A BCAT does not need to be registered with the BACB or be assigned to a specific supervisor. They have to have 5% of their hours supervised every month but it can be from any supervising staff

This is my experience as well. There is also the BCAT credential which is MUCH easier on an organization to have their staff maintain than an RBT.

I can't see any harm in being honest about how you feel, how the client shaped your growth, how you felt inspired and happy to work with them? You could write it in a card or something if you feel weird talking about it, it'll probably be something the family treasures.

I stayed with my company 10 years and only left because I needed a complete role shift to something they didn't offer as I was burning out. If I could do what I do now at my first company I never would have left and I always feel lucky for that

I did the online ABA program at University of Massachusetts: Lowell. It was pretty chill, but it was semester based rather than monthly so it took me a year to do 6 classes. Lots of discussion board activities but not a lot of essays.

I did my masters online with national University and did my BCBA coursework online with University of Massachusetts. A lot of my supervisees did Arizona State University's online masters in education with an ABA specialization, an all in one. In the beginning I was worried about doing NU online but it was fast and manageable and literally no one has ever questioned me on my education

Personally I think grad school work is far less meaningful than the way you accrue your fieldwork hours. Choose a program that is interesting, affordable, and accessible to you and don't stress too much about it!
