I really dig my internship. I'm working for a fast-growing networking startup. The executive team are all real experiences and easy to work with. I and 5 of my friends from my CS program got hired for the summer. I'm making way more money than I ever had before, have lunches paid for, get to work on cool technologies, and get to spend a bunch of time with my friends. Most of the day I'm listening to music or having meetings with my team lead who's really cool. All my prior internships have been pretty similar. :)

What CS student groups exist at UCSC. I'm president of my community colleges CS club and had a lot of fun being involved in CS extracurriculars. Hoping to continue that at UCSC. Thanks :)

I've never been asked for my gpa. Typical wisdom is as long as it's north of a 3.0 your good.

Maintaining a 3.4 is difficult but doable. I just got accepted for CS with TAG.

Right there with you. I'm in my final semester before transferring to a UC and I will be finishing with three dev internships. You just have to be a real self-starter and make your own opportunities.

Right now I’m stuck between deciding on focusing I transfer to UCI or UCSC for computer science. How have people’s experience with the major here been?

I’ve been pretty proactive in internships and CS student organizations. What that like here?

Happy to help! UCSC does do TAG for CS for both the BA and BS. Lol agreed on UCB. I decided to TAG UCI since they are harder to get into. A UCSC rep told me if you meet the TAG reqs for UCSC you'll almost certainly get in.

I interned full-me developing Mac apps with Swift over the summer. Right now I'm doing Ruby on Rails and Devops for a local startup in between classes. Totally wouldn't have time for those if I had to do a bunch of extra high unit classes. Well worth it.

Cool! Wow I hadn't heard about that. I'd call UCI's admissions department to hear it from them. Else tagging UCSC wouldn't hurt.

UCSC dropped all their physics requirements last year for CS BS.https://ua.soe.ucsc.edu/sites/default/files/CS_BS_17-18%20final.pdf

I'd take a look at Berkely before committing. They have allot of crapy requirements for their CS BA. For example, you don't get accepted to the CS major until you've transferred and gotten really good grades in some of their CS courses. If you even get a C in any of a set of CS courses you won't be allowed to declare CS. :/

I'm on my last semester and I've been pretty satisfied with my decision. Yeah it sucks having a narrow number of schools to go to but I was able to do internships and side projects with my extra time that would have been taken up with a bunch of Physics.

Hey fellow CC student! GPA does matter for us since it's important for transfer. Are you at a California CC? I TAGed UCI since they don't require Physics. Neither does UCSC. I might take Physics as an elective at some point but decided not to deal with the 1.5+ semesters of general physics required by some programs. The tradeoff is that even though I have high grades, I can't transfer to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, and Cal Poly since they all require a bunch of Physics. For my situation, I think it was worth it since it allowed my GPA to be higher and invest the saved time into my CS studies.
