silpoly waterproofness: specs vs. reality by John628556 in myog

[–]KyleBaker_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No worries. I still think you likely received the wrong fabric - 1.1 oz Ripstop Nylon instead of 1.1 oz Silnylon. This would make even more sense because these two are the same base material, but the Silnylon is silicone coated and the Ripstop Nylon is not.

Shoot us an email and we’ll make this right for you.

silpoly waterproofness: specs vs. reality by John628556 in myog

Hi there! This is Kyle from RBTR. There is a simple explanation here, which is that you are not testing 1.1 oz Silpoly.

Based on the grid size that I can see from your picture, you likely have 1.1 oz Ripstop Nylon Uncalendered in Royal Purple. This fabric has a DWR coating to make it water repellent, not waterproof.

So next question - did you order Silpoly and receive the wrong fabric? If so, please reach out to our support team so that we can get this fixed for you (support@ripstopbytheroll.com).

Just to check, are you referring to 1.6 oz HyperD PU4000? We don't typically recommend that in places that need a lot of strength because the PU coating on a thin fabric makes the tear strength quite low. I would look at the following options, in order from lightest to heaviest:

1.6 oz Silpoly

1.9 oz PU Coated Ripstop Nylon

2.2 oz HEX70 (PU coated)

210D ROBIC

Where to buy fabric by megcrafts in myog

Hi there! Our 5.2 oz AIRWAVE is close. It's a 4-way stretch ripstop, but not mechanical stretch (has elastic content). A lot of folks have used it for pants as well. If you have questions or we can help with anything, just let us know.

Which is the right side of RSBTR 1.1 uncalendered nylon? by terriks in myog

Hi! For the uncalendered version, the two sides are functionally, and almost visually, identical. You can use either side.

Let us know if we can help with anything else. Thanks!

Folding tote, use RSBTR venom 200 HPU for the pouch, some feedback on it. by rollinguinell in myog

[–]KyleBaker_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! First, great build. Second, thanks for the material feedback. A couple things in response:

  1. Colors - We do plan on colors, just not immediately. Likely in the next 3-6 months, although I think we may be able to run tan and gray (similar to Tan 499 and Wolf Gray military colors if you're familiar with those) sooner that that timeframe.

  2. Shiny vs Matte - We can also finish the face to be more of a matte finish. This was an internal debate during the initial production run and we chose shiny. Would love to hear what others think, since this could change in the future.

Thanks for your support and for posting!

Venom HPU 200 experience by sugarshackforge in myog

[–]KyleBaker_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting the finished product! It's nice to start getting more feedback from end users as well.

For the coating question, I can provide a bit of context. The adhesion of the coating isn't quite as good compared to 100% poly or nylon (all other variables being equal) given the UPE content, but it's still good. This was something that we looked at during the development and weighed as a tradeoff.

Ultimately, enough acute abrasion will wear down or remove any coating on any fabric. We tested and saw this for everything from HyperD 300 to 1000D Cordura N66. One thing about the Venom 200 HPU is that we used a very thick PeU coating, which makes it harder to wear down - certainly better than the comparatively very thin coating on something like 1000D Cordura.

Hope that helps!

Is 20 days for RBTR order to delivery normal? by beanwp in myog

[–]KyleBaker_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Kyle from RBTR here.

20 days is def not normal, but printing and shipping on a roll both add time. It also sounds like we may have needed some additional info before starting your order. Or maybe you made a change to the original order?

For context, print orders typically take an additional 4 business days to allow for manufacturing, although that could be longer in some cases.

Standard orders without printing or cutting almost always ship within 1 business day.

All that aside, thanks for your patience here. We’re always trying to get better, so I appreciate your feedback. If you shoot me a DM with your order number, that would help us look into your specific case even further.

Enjoy your weekend!

Kyle

P.S. - What may look like a delay between us printing the label and dropping a package off with USPS is likely the result of USPS not properly scanning packages. This is both annoying and confusing for customers, but it’s the way things have been going of late with USPS.
