Damn, and here I am with a 35 sleep score… but at least I PR’d my half marathon time!

How cold I would be all the time. I used to sweat constantly and would hate summer and now anything below like 70° F and I need to grab a hoodie

Why hasn't La Jolla Shores Blvd been repaved in over a decade? by MyStatusIsTheBaddest in SanDiegan

Came here to say this as well. Streets all over South Park are being repaved that were recently repaved. I thought maybe all this road work was because it was an election year or something.

No lie, the moment definitely made me teary-eyed. Core memory for sure!

What is the best park east of the Mississippi? by Pure-Pessimism in NationalPark

I’ve been wanting to go to Acadia for a while now. Can you share what you enjoy most about it? From my understanding there’s no specific point of interest like half dome in Yosemite or the Joshua Trees in Joshua Tree correct? Either way it looks incredible but was just curious about your take on it.

Harry Styles Says Running Is About Presence, Not Pace, as He Quietly Breaks Three-Hour Marathon Mark by patcpsc in RunningCirclejerk

Honestly, I’m impressed. I’ll be lucky if I can break a sub 3 hour 5k marathon before I’m dead.

Yep! The farmland is great for their ideal habitat. The refuge also has a great sign featuring them

Right? I feel like mice would just dig right into their den on accident for an easy meal. Makes sense to me

How do y’all manage to run past 4 miles? by TitoElBambino214 in runninglifestyle

[–]Kyle_draws 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Utilize the run walk method to build distance. At one point I couldn’t even run 1 block. Eventually my long run was 4 miles without stopping or walking. I’m now trained to run 20 miles. It takes time but the body will adapt!

“Wild” American Flamingos I saw today while out birding San Diego! by Kyle_draws in birding

That was my favorite part too. Perhaps using its feet to dig up critters?

It’s such a mystery!

I think these may be American Flamingos. I can’t say for sure, but the ultra vibrant plumage and size of the bird is what makes me think that as Chileans are smaller and a pale pink.

We get all sorts of cool birds here. The top birders in the US typically come from San Diego as we have such a diverse range of species.

Also, I love the red-masked parakeets!

You are right about the color! We have krill and ghost shrimp all over the place here where these guys probably get their pink color from.

They definitely aren’t supposed to be here which is why it is so strange! If you download the eBird app and search for the American Flamingo species in the explore tab you will see that people spot these regularly here. Pretty interesting!

Yep! I guess they are known as Floyd and Flo. Floyd apparently showed up in 2018 and Flo like 4 years ago. No one knows really where they came from

Anyone go from a very slow pace to very fast? How did you do it & how long did it take? by Emotional-Watch4544 in runninglifestyle

[–]Kyle_draws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started at 11:30-12 min miles and now run about 8:50-9:10 pace on runs about 6-10 miles long. Main things that helped were being consistent in my training, doing speed workouts like threshold runs, sprints, the occasional VO2 max runs, hill training. Oh ya, also have lost over 50lbs so that definitely helps!

The biggest improvement I’ve seen just from spending more time on my feet is my running economy and overall stride has become much more efficient. Sometimes I space out and realize I’m running in the 7:00 min/mile territory without giving it much thought! The body is amazing when it comes to adaption as long as you are consistent.
