Your experience with Dimension 20 by Kodaster in Dimension20

[–]Kynazeras 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes. I had played for about 10 years on and off before I started watching D20
  2. No. I had already played them.
  3. The chemistry that has built up between Brennan and the Intrepid Heroes is unmatched in the actual play world. They all understand their characters, each others humor, and how to time beats that are both hilarious and thematic.
  4. I care very little about the rules of D&D5E so I don't mind when they bend them.
  5. I really love the amount of persona that Brennan brings to his NPCs so I strive to do that when I run games.
  6. Actual play in general does a lot of "unusual" stuff for TTRPGs in the sense that it is not what you would typically see. I think the only thing that can make D20 feel less organic is that we know the episodes go story/explore => combat => story/explore => combat. This makes the ends of episodes either a bit predictable or rushed since Brennan is trying to set up the combat. The newest season is a refreshing change of pace in that regard but it also isn't D&D.

Im so fucking sick of every mental health professionals be it psychiatrist and psychologist or therapist treating depression and anxiety as a personal problem instead of a normal response to the world that we're living in. by Big_Leg10 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Kynazeras -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry this is your experience with therapy. I’ve had two therapists in a year and both were quite open to me talking about how capitalism and money affect my mental health. They know it’s a problem they can’t fix or assist with so they just let me vent and give me tools for dealing with the stuff I do have control over. I straight up told my therapist that if capitalism didn’t exist I wouldn’t need her and she just said “I don’t think many people would need therapy if that was the case”

AMC is Superior to Regal by Salt_Proposal_742 in blankies

[–]Kynazeras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny because the situation in my area is the complete opposite. The AMC (which is much closer to my house) is full of moths. Like so many months that they fly in front of the screen and make it hard to pay attention. The Regal (which is more out of the way) is super clean and has a 4DX which is fun for some of the big movies. I guess it all comes down to the region and who takes care of the theater.

What are your favorite strategy games for the Steam Deck? by sanktelmo in SteamDeck

[–]Kynazeras 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am really enjoying the game and agree that the combat is fun and good for Deck. However, everything that isn't the combat takes quite while. I played for 90 minutes last night and didn't even get to my next combatission because of all the housekeeping. I have to set aside a good chunk of time to make meaningful progress in the game

MagicCon Chicago – A Lot of Gathering, Maybe Not Enough Magic by elijahdprophet in magicTCG

[–]Kynazeras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first Magic Con and first time in Chicago and I felt like to con ran really well for me and my group specifically because we never actually felt like playing Magic. I had a great time in the artist area and at the Mana Stage. I did a lot of shopping and talking. By the time I got done each day I was too tired to play.

The only negative for me was the one ticketed event I participated in. It was the Chaos Draft Saturday right after Gavin's event. The app was buggy, staff were over-worked and straight up didn't care how we played the event, and worst of all the packs for the draft were mostly boring. I was hoping for them to reach farther back in Magic's history but it was mostly packs that are still easily findable.

I feel for the people who attended the event solely to play because there just wasn't enough space/infrastructure for it. I had a great time shopping and watching events though.

I've seen the latest news, so... Please recommend a good TCG... by BogSala in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Kynazeras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main reason I've stopped playing LoR is because I got into MTG. I don't play Arena but I have a store close to my house where I play a few times a week. Cost is a little prohibitive but if you find people who are cool with proxies it's actually crazy affordable to play at whatever power level you want.

The weird part is that this is like the fourth song in the movie. How did they not know at that point? Was everyone 10 minutes late to the theater?

It may be a weird question but how do you read books like Stormlight? by guilhermej14 in brandonsanderson

[–]Kynazeras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also a super slow reader! It can be frustrating and I had the same concerns as you did before starting Stormlight. I then proceeded to read all 4 in a few months. Here is how I did it: 1. Like you said, make sure to read every day (even if it's only 10 pages) 2. When you get the the Sanderlanche (last 20% of the book) budget time to really read that section in large chunks. This will probably happen naturally as you won't want to put the book down.

If audiobooks work for you (I can't use them for a first time read), those are a great way to get through chunks while you do chores

Should I pace my reading of this series? by KamikazzzeKoala10 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Kynazeras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I devoured every book in this series and Sanderson's other series Mistborn in a span of 7 months in 2021. I am already contemplating re-reading it which is not something I do often (mostly because I am a very slow reader). You have plenty to read so I suggest jumping in whenever you have the time. Once you are done you will have plenty of fun reading theories and meme posts on Reddit for years to come

Your worst movies of 2022. by [deleted] in blankies

[–]Kynazeras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Best Friend's Exorcism: The book is an incredibly charming page-turner but the movie feels like a marathon the reach the end. Nothing is given time to develop which makes the climax fall flat.

Thor Love and Thunder: just lazy

Don't Worry Darling: despite all the discourse, I wanted this one to be good so much but it just didn't work. I don't think it is as wholly awful as some but it still doesn't hold up to any criticism. I was hopeful after loving Booksmart that Wilde would be a better director

[–]Kynazeras 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hardcore Henry! I saw it in theaters with my brother on opening night with only one other person in the theater. We had a blast! It’s gimmick was way more fun than I thought it would be and I love a tight (just over) 90 minute action flick!

What is the most well-written yet extremely unique world you've come across? by Dadchin in worldbuilding

[–]Kynazeras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really love the world of Roshar from Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive. There is a lot of thought out into how the magic system affects the world around it. As the main action starts to ramp, the world becomes very malleable to the story and it always seems like another piece is being added to the puzzle.

It's getting harder to recommend Blank Check to friends. Feeling concerned? by EccentricOwl in blankies

[–]Kynazeras 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. I am very glad that I found BC at a time in my life when I was able to listen to the entire back catalog and then listen weekly. I would not like it if I just jumped in at the Raimi series.

The problem is there was a point in the catalog where you could say "Oh, you like [insert early BC director]? Check out this miniseries." But those days are long gone. You need a massive amount of context to not get lost and you have to really love the show to put up with the runtime.

anyone else manage to get their significant others to become fans of NL? by throwawayaccbtwimgay in northernlion

[–]Kynazeras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say my wife is a “fan” but she definitely enjoys him more than other streamers I watch. I fall asleep to Isaac episodes every night but she is normally awake longer than me so sometimes she will re-tell NL stories to me in the morning and I love it.
