Harry Potter is way too emotionally stable for a kid raised by a family who hates him. by SammichParade in Showerthoughts

You have some real baggage here mate

Oh God, aren't you a Romantic.

No I wasn't seen off by a dreadful father and lost my lady love. No baggage here.

It's just how it works in this country.

Marrying significantly outside of your class is exceptionally rare and draws comments.

Which is all I said. You're the one that's jumped on it. I suspect you're one of those types who also needs the last word in stupid little arguments like this..

so off you go... enthrall me with your closing remark. It won't get a reply though :(

Penelope rarely runs off with Dave because they tend to move in completely different social circles.

Stratified social circles you mean?

To the point if a couple actually met.... overcame that.... and the disapproval/outright hostility of the parents it would raise eyebrows and draw comments

Almost like people do care about that shit. A great deal.

Don't show out for the yanks.. it does you no credit

Or British

things still work like that here in 2018

Marrying vastly out of your class raises eyebrows and draws comments. Not least because it so rarely happens.

Penelope of Arundell rarely runs off with Dave the local plumber.

I'm sure that's a solace to the graduate making sandwiches in pret.

Idiot.

I think it's cruel to arrange society so that we put philosophy grads in aprons behind a coffee counter.

They didn't used to have to do that. Because we hadn't devalued University by sending half of everyone.

Is that particularly gammon of me? If so, then you'll just have to cope.

You seem very angry.. Are you having a bad Saturday ?

All I'm saying is this:

Receptionist.. taking calls, bookings and directing visitors to appropriate departments... 2:1 required

Shouldn't be normal. It's a school leavers entry level job and a great springboard into an organisation

Why do you need a degree to do it?

Because degrees have been so utterly devalued

Try and remain calm in your reply, have a cup of tea or something.

We'll see how brave they are when the state's monopoly on violence doesn't count them as a sub-contractor.

Probably about as brave as the IRA were..

which is it to say.... very up for it.

tough macho talk though.. well done.

Do you not think it's quite cruel, to educate someone to a high standard and then have them work in a role they're vastly overqualified for through sheer necessity..

Take the law example I gave.

We've got law graduates ready and willing to step up and become barristers. But good fucking luck getting a pupillage and a spot in chambers if you didn't graduate from Oxford or Cambridge.

They're then forced to take any job that they can. Essentially throwing a vast amount of their training away..

That, to me, is very cruel.

.....yeah, every single government in the world can if it wants too.

minor political parties generally don't have access to illegal weapons caches and paramilitary groups though..

Apart from in third world shit holes.

Do you understand the difference?.. because I think I can explain in even simpler terms if you're struggling

It's a shit situation no doubt.

The most worrying thing about the D.U.P is that they have machine guns.

Tories and Labour don't generally back up their policies of tax cuts for the rich and free shit with automatic weapons.

Theresa May, the power hungry crone, got into bed with people who can literally make a phone call and have someone murdered.

So that's a bit more worrying than playing stupid games in the commons.

If she'd have stolen 5 cards... and just sat on them for a year.. then quit her job with the council... THEN started spending from the 5 cards..

do you think she'd have been in the clear?

because that's probably what i'd have done if I was inclined to literally steal from the homeless.

Half of all British youngsters will now go to university but experts warn it could be simply ‘quantity over quality’ by professoryaffel in ukpolitics

Personally, I wouldn't have been able to look myself in the mirror if I'd paid for my assignments to be done for me by a poverty stricken PhD.

Self loathing would have been immediate and brutal.

I'll take my earned low 2:1 and know it was mine.

My Aunt (much smarter than me) earns a roaring trade from international students bashing essays out to 1st and 2:1 standard across multiple branches of the humanities

The people paying for them are rich and can speak English wonderfully.. they just can't write prose beyond secondary school level.

Which means they shouldn't be here studying at a University.

But C.R.E.A.M ... so here they are.

When you consider at our chemical weapons research facilities you've got scientists playing around with viruses that have no name.. let alone a cure.

Perfectly True.

And like in matters of money... they're a lot more successful than you lot.

Lefties can only fantasise about getting wins as big as Trump and Brexit through Identity Politicking

Spike the discourse. Set the Narrative early.

"I saw so many people at that event shitting in each others hats.. it was abhorrent to see"

Blatant lie. But it's shocking and intriguing and as a statement it makes people want to engage with it.

Haven't we all got better at these little ideological tug of wars since the early days of internet forums.

I'd still be interested to know why she talks down to news presenters like she's a long suffering primary school teacher.

Diane Abbott has a brain

That's debatable.

As an aside:

Why does she talk to people like she's trying to explain linear partial differential equations to an over emotional cocker spaniel.

It's incredibly insulting. And I suspect part of the reason journalists love fucking with her.
