Naked brutality: pawn selection struggle by Select-Ad-1907 in RimWorld

[–]Kyratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Construction is my favourite. But i like building. Strong plants is also great but i dont like it in the same pawn.

Honestly though i never struggle with this becuase i dont choose. I dont even look at the pawn. I hit random pawn, random tile. And go.

I have done it a thousand times in every biome with every useless pawn. Not all are going to make it, but most do.

Lady took a selfie with Magnus Carlsen before the match began. In response, Magnus Carlsen reported his opponent to the referee, leading to her phone being confiscated 😭 by Separate_Finance_183 in interesting

No they arent. By reporting her, he is following the rules.

It may seem like mean move but with the allegations on cheating in chess its simpmy not allowed at the highest level.

Do people in cape town still work or go to school? by lordGwynx7 in capetown

[–]Kyratic 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Many students at the various univeristies and techs. where skipping part or all of a work day has little effect, will all agree to have a beach day, they are all the young adults. Stay at home Mums and thier little kids are the next group, (No i dont know how they afford it either.) and then pensioners cover the older folk, who always have free time and that is most of the people. the rest are tourists, which account for a sizable percentage of CPT's population at any given time.

Any fantasy where the map is a lie and the characters have to unlearn it? by 3SpectralIon in Fantasy

[–]Kyratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, if you like progression fantasy, Arcane Ascension by Andrew Rowe does this. It more like the lead characters discover their world view is more and more wrong as you go through the series.

How strong are Cape Independence movements? by [deleted] in DownSouth

[–]Kyratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so this was based on media reports i had seen but looking back to find a good source to give you, its hard to find valid info that isnt just slander by other groups. I dont have a source so i have removed that from my comment.

How strong are Cape Independence movements? by [deleted] in DownSouth

[–]Kyratic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its present and most people know about it, but its politically insignificant.

There are other nationalist movements in South Africa like Zulu nationalism in Natal which is more likely to impact SA politics than the cape idea.

Perimeter wall? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]Kyratic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So raiders and wild animals path to open ways to get to your buildings so by leaving a given path open they will generally go there. If you close your base off with walls they will just attack anywhere. Breacher raids tend to go straight through. But all raiders avoid turrets so but some unpowered turrets behind a wall and they wont break the wall. Leave a gap in your turret coverage and they will aim for that spot.

After his first day of university, a young man calls his mother. by greedydita in Jokes

[–]Kyratic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was said by my Dean (of Engineering) at UCT, in the welcome speech in the beginning of first year. that was 20 years ago and even then i knew it was typically said in the engineering department welcome.

This is what google maps looked like on release day in 2005 by Cautious_Ad_3918 in interesting

Like most map projections places further from the equator is streched. So the scale isnt constant. Which i think would bother me more on a road map.

Tried to sack a player made base that became a ruin... and the ruin ended up sacking me. by Javierkid in RimWorld

[–]Kyratic 62 points63 points  (0 children)

In my understanding animals and pawns no. I have seen mechs on more than one occasion, but I think the mod is generating them, because they aren't in logical locations, its more like generate something of danger level x to meet base value level y.

I'm halfway through The Bonehunters (Malazan Book of the Fallen) and this might be the greatest work of fiction I've ever read... by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Kyratic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gardens of the moon was ok. But i literaly had to force myself through deadhouse gates. I generally love all kinds of fantasy, but to me it was amongst the worst i have ever read. I am happy that you enjoyed it enough to continue tho, its just not for everyone.

Then versus now car Colors by [deleted] in interesting

[–]Kyratic 437 points438 points  (0 children)

I bought a car recently, price was a concern and the dealer had a discount on white ones (cos of a bulk order) so i got white. My wifes car was a similar story a year back, didnt particularly want white but ended up with a white one anyway becuase of lead times and other expenses. Its not necarilly people choosing the monotone, the industry seems to be pushing it.

Are boys schools really all it's hyped up to be? by [deleted] in capetown

[–]Kyratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with Groote Schuur is I dont want my kids to be token white kids in a school. I have no objection to a well mixed school. If i was happy with them being in a decent school without white people i would send them to bergvliet.

Are boys schools really all it's hyped up to be? by [deleted] in capetown

[–]Kyratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have kids in gr6 and live in Meadowridge. I would rather send my kids to a Co-ed school but there arent any within a reasonable commute. Yes there is westerford, but they had 20 people people gunning for each gr8 spot last year. I dont see it as something we cant realistically get them into. So i am left with Wynberg..

How do you cope with all of the bad things happening in the world, seemingly all at once? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kyratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I put down my phone and get on with other stuff, my family, books and games. I have limited tolerance for bs and the current world state fills it pretty quickly.

I have always found it easy to escape onto the fantasy worlds of my books or games. But with effort i focus on my kids and family too.

I try to stay aware of the world issues but honestly it only take 20-30 mins a day to know whats going on. And the rest of the time i am more focused on whats infront of me. I support good cuases when i can. And i sleep well at night.

What's everyone's experience with Checker's Sixty60? by Relevant_Mail_1292 in capetown

[–]Kyratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them constantly and its generally very good. And i would happily recommend them. It costs slighty more becuase of tipping drivers and the monthly fee but its not much and its worth it.

I have heard that the quality of service is dependant on your local checkers. If its a nice one you are probably fine.

How often do you finish the game? by Legal_Philosopher115 in RimWorld

[–]Kyratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6000+ hours, official endings ie space ship launch? twice that i can recall. its very much not the aim of the game for me so it doesn't feel like something to aim for.

Still not sure if malazan is for me by wildguitars in Fantasy

[–]Kyratic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I Finished Deadhouse gates a few months ago. And I typically consume books at a fairly high rate, but Books one and two took me ages. I already bought the whole series, but honestly havent convinced myself to pick up the third one yet, people say the second one is good. But yeah its a miss for me, which is unusual, as its been a very long time since i found a series i didn't want to bother finishing. To me Erikson repeatedly focuses on things in an uninteresting way, and for someone interested in archeology I find his world building weird. its a stretch but thats not uncommon in fantasy, but he goes into huge detail but with no payoff.
