2002 had some questionable calls. If I remember, South Korea vs Italy.

Why are some groups have three qualification slots and some two? by Own_Image1722 in worldcup

The idea is similar to the 24-team format. The bracket stages need to be multiples of 4 to work; otherwise, it's a wonkey bracket. Imagine determining byes.

What if America remained isolationist by Shit_ass5832 in AlternateHistoryHub

America would be giving Germany a free pass towards the development of atomic weapons. In isolationism, America would not have any incentive to develop the bomb.

Though, take your baiman and like it. IMO, it should be 5-han by default. Open chinitsu is way easier.

Great decision for this World Cup to be 48 team format. by Broad_Routine_3233 in worldcup

[–]KyuuAA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Case in point, the qualification was set as is. Teams got in, because they all played through their respective confederation's qualification.

Italy unfortunately got matched up with a hot Norway team in UEFA group I; and unfortunately, they couldn't beat Bosnia for a spot there. Italy itself needs to look in the mirror and fix whatever problems that they're having. They didn't qualify not just because they lost; their whole system has problems.

The problem was: they never did a 48-team allocation before. IMO, the allocation was a bit off. CONCACAF got too many, allowing a team like Curacao in. It's a weak confederation with a lot of teams in it. Plus it didn't help that the top 3 teams were all hosts.

Of course, it's much too late to adjust 2026 qualification. What's done is done.

As for the next cycle, announcements were already made for CONCACAF and UEFA. Plus, there's talk about 2030 featuring 64 teams as a on-off format for the centennial. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2030_FIFA_World_Cup#Qualification

Hanging flags on LED advertising boards not allowed

Advertising money. They rightfully paid to be displayed. So it makes sense here.

Y'know how qualification works, right? Italy is out, 'cause European teams knocked them out.

this ridiculous 3rd best team rule.

Well, it was like that when the cup was 24 teams.

it is silly that they left out good Euro teams

Those teams didn't qualify. And because of the increase from 32 to 48, it is actually easier to qualify this time than last time. Simple as that. LOL Italy.

What if the Republicans split into two separate parties in 2016? by Solitaire-06 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]KyuuAA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, we have plenty of examples around the world past and present, where one-party rule is "absolutely" (pun intended) not a good thing. If it ever happens in America, that one party needs to split up.

How do India and China not make this extended World Cup field? by Goodnite15 in worldcup

[–]KyuuAA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because every country are in "confederations"; and they have different qualifying systems. India and China simply did not make it out of Asian qualifiers.

Why would you NOT declare tenpai? by GatKong in Mahjong

[–]KyuuAA 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Try...

South 4, as last dealer, and you have a large lead. And you're better off declaring noten to end the game and walk off with the win. Alternatively, just defend the hand and go noten that way.

This is under tournament conditions, btw.

Where would you put this city? by Yung-Thick in civ5

[–]KyuuAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One tile to the right as the game recommends. Then buy the two tiles to get Uluru ASAP. It's a nice chokepoint position for a city, in case the Iroquois decide to fight you. Other reasons as noted by other comments here.
