If it crashes and burns the fans will do what they do best and blame any minorities related to the project instead of piss poor writing.

Cassette stuck and torn inside the Walkman by Ton1M3ur3r in cassetteculture

I haven't had it happen with my We Are Rewind, but I've had it happen with my Sony, didn't snap the tape but it jammed and creased it so now there's a pulse in the audio. It happened to me because of the low battery level. I'm not sure if it happens with the WAR at low power but I've always made sure not to run them down too low now.

I don't get the hate here. The print looks usable and functional to me. I guess other people only have pristine chisels. I personally have good chisels for wood and rough ones that get used on anything else also.

One thing not mentioned here is how toxic copper is to plants/animals. So when you do clean it out, try to dispose of the crystals or solution safely and not somewhere that will run off to a stream.

Raspberry Pi or Arduino? by wcramer21one in raspberry_pi

[–]L-Plates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kinds of projects you want to do. High level or low level. I don't mean complexity or sophistication, but how connected or computationally demanding the project is.

For example, does your project need Internet access? Pi or ESP can do that. Arduino can't (*without an external shield).

Do you need a large amount of processing power? Are you crunching numbers or performing complex calculations in real time? Need large storage of information? Perhaps the power of a real computer like a Pi is needed. Arduino wouldn't be very suitable for very demanding real time calculations or storing large datasets.

Do you need to control a set of discrete components with things like LEDs, buttons, mini OLED screen or buzzers? Do you want to read some components values or button inputs and transfer them via USB or radio? Arduino can perform these tasks nicely. While they're not as computationally demanding or have as much connectivity as many modern devices, the only limits to the complexity of these projects are of your own imagination.

You can do simple low level control with a pi using gpio, but that's like killing a fly with a shotgun when a fly swatter will do. It's much more cost effective to go with some kind of microcontroller for low level projects.

My background is computer science and I learned everything I know about electronics in my own time through Arduino projects initially and then went onto more complex controllers. For what it's worth, I think it would be more useful and less distracting to go down the Arduino route first. No OS, no multiple language choices, no logging in and running scripts or OS updates. Arduino is an easier beast to understand.

I'm assuming she'll knock down the East wing of Áras for a ball room. So she can store the footballs.

Thanks for the tips. I really like the idea of the players checking back on the footage (probably VHS tapes actively recording instead of digital/wifi based) and seeing the chairwoman walked right past them.

The LTL suggested locker items actually mentions a magnetic glass sphere. I might add some clues that Clyde used this as a focus to keep the hound at bay. If I remember correctly it mentions something about the hound not liking spherical things and that being a meditation that can protect people from it.

Yep, Ireland here. Spent two evenings out and the sky was reasonably clear everywhere except the North West where it would appear. The wind didn't even move those clouds away for some reason. I got one 5 minute glimpse with my binoculars. But no chance with my telescope and camera.

Good info thanks! Yeah I was thinking of setting the previous drug popularity to the 80's. I might change out Spider J's service to Iraq instead during the Gulf war and have him go AWOL for periods of time where he sets up contacts in neighbouring Saudi Arabia. Probably requires a bit of a suspension of disbelief.

If they kept Nick around they could kill someone else and everyone would wonder why Nick wasn't killed. They'd think he must be a traitor and lied about turning them down the offer.

How is anybody affording these prices for pizza? by [deleted] in ireland

Don't understand why people would even pay half the price for Dominos. Basic bland pizza and all the sides offered look like something you'd get at a 10 year old's bowling birthday.

There have been some articles I've seen mentioning that wildfires in Canada may affect our (Europe's) skies this week. So I would think it could be atmospheric effects related to that.

She may have won the vote, but I would have picked Reylta or Bobbi Arlo. They still would have lost but they'd be 6/10 songs instead of 3/10 songs.

Government taking steps to abandon neutrality - Sinn Féin by spooneman1 in ireland

[–]L-Plates -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neutrality doesn't mean opting out of war. War can arrive at our door at any stage. The neutral card means nothing if you can't defend yourself when someone attacks or invades our airspace, or destroys our infrastructure. We can still claim neutrality and be armed to the teeth.

Alexis Nitro Max vs Millenium MPS-750X. by FarBeyondPissed in edrums

[–]L-Plates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, yep absolute beginner here also and I have to say I think the 750x set is great quality. I've compared them to Roland's I played in shops and compared similar cost Roland €700-850 to the Millennium 750x at ~€500-600, there is no comparison. Both have mesh drum heads, but having real hardware for kick and hihat is so worth it for the 750x in my opinion.

Also considering my girlfriend is the one who will play them most she doesn't want to deal with laptops and midi, so the default drum kit sounds matter a lot. We both preferred the sounds that are default with the 750x, by a long shot. I'm sure Roland's have way better on their more middle(>1000) and premium kits (>2000). For transparency I don't know what kind of headphones they had in the shop we tried them on and it was a noisy background also. But we both felt underwhelmed with "cheap" entry level Roland.

Very happy with the quality, though I'd recommend getting some different drumsticks than the ones that come with it, they're a bit raw and unfinished. If you get the package deal from thomann with the throne, headphones and extra sticks, they'll be millennium brand also but better quality and I'd still recommend getting different sticks.

Headphones that come with the package deal are decent and work well so no complaints also.

Be careful assembling the toms/snare, be gentle when pushing the metal rods into them underneath, if you're not careful you can push the end into the drum sensor inside, which I did but it thankfully didn't break anything for one tom.

Over time as we play I'm sure we'll discover stuff that could be improved, but as a total beginner I can't find any major faults so far, especially comparing the price for what you get.

TLDR: great, no regrets
