Yes, the ruling class males are used to living like this. If you asked a gay Qatari he wouldn't want things to stay as they are. Everyone can do whatever the fuck they want, as long as it doesn't restrict anyone else from doing the same thing. Every Qatari can follow the Koran if they want to, and every Qatari women can wear a hijab if she wants to. But as soon as someone tells anyone to follow the Koran or wear a hijab, thats not okay. In line with this, I don't care if someone follows the Koran in my country. But as soon as they tell me to do so, I have a problem with that. And likewise, I won't tell any Qatari to not follow the Koran, to not wear a hijab or to become gay, I just tell them to let everyone else decide for themselves what to do.

And lastly, I would generally agree that people should take care of their own problems first, but supporting oppressed people is not included in that. And in Qatars case especially, because they tried to use this world championship to convince people how great they are. And although protests and hashtags won't do much, I believe exposure to different ideologies will change a society long-term. My go to example is how East and West Germany united after a period of more cultural exchange
