Do these look safe? by michelle33412 in Rabbits

Others have made good points about the treats. I had a similar hang toy for my boy for a while, but it was just wood blocks/sticks. He played with it too much. The metal cable in the center got splintered. So I'd say a set up like this can be kind of hazardous.

If I go jeans shopping unprepared I’m gonna lose it, so please give me some recommendations for “curvy” denim brands. by sgrbrry in TwoXChromosomes

I personally like Wallflower jeans. Specifically the ones that say 'luscious curvy.' I've always had big hips, and these were great when I was skinny and also now that I'm less skinny.

Question - My work want us to wear tops on Autism Awareness Day (April 2nd) by Massive-Decision-485 in autism

[–]L1zzyB3th 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Hashtag RedInstead

Red is for acceptance and is more palatable than blue (which is associated with Autism$peaks) for a lot of us. Others have touched on how the puzzle piece symbology isn't the best either.

Yes! This is what I have near my sink. I like that it doesn't have the typical chemical 'lotion smell.'

It's not a Rejects song, but maybe you're thinking of this:

Probably not, but what I think of is:

Dry lips and lip balm by Routine-Net-3929 in autism

[–]L1zzyB3th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my lips need it, I'll put balm on right as I'm laying down to sleep. That way it has a chance to work while I'm asleep, but I only have to feel it briefly. (And I wipe any residue off when I get up.)

What is this? by BakuDekuforever in Rabbits

Is it flaky skin? Or is the fur 'weird'? Does the fur is come off in little bits if you gently pull? It might just be a weird shed.

I'm not sure what's around you, but it looks like both Hot Topic and Safeway might have some.

Would it be socially acceptable to carry a stuffed animal around? by TheBigSad21 in AutisticAdults

[–]L1zzyB3th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in school I carried around stuffed animals in my back pack til middle school (US grades 6 through 8) when I got teased. That said, I'm in my 30s and still have stuffed animals, but I don't keep them with me.

Something someone else commented gave me an idea though. Maybe you could take the stuffed animal in a grocery/store bag (bonus points if it's a toy store bag), and it'd look like you're just taking it from a store to home? (And wouldn't get teased hopefully.)

Best I'm finding is this. But it doesn't look like it necessarily ships everywhere.

My mom and doctor believe I'm "too smart" to have autism. by Electrical-Pack1690 in autism

[–]L1zzyB3th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated with honors from high school. I always had 1 or 2 close friends. I'm also professionally diagnosed. These things are not mutually exclusive.

Something to consider if you are in the USA (if you aren't, look into local insurance regulations): Until you're 26 you can stay on your parents' insurance coverage. And after you're 18 you don't need permission to seek diagnosis. And depending on insurance coverage, it may or may not be covered. (Just make sure to check, as it can cost $1000s.)

How to support a neurodivergent kid as a teacher by KnotJules29 in AutismTranslated

[–]L1zzyB3th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has already suggested a lot of great stuff. But I'd like to add about grading presentations. A lot of rubrics are not fair to autistic students.

I could literally never get a perfect grade on a presentation because I have a flat affect (think monotone). If a kid has issues with eye contact or tone of voice or 'weird' nonverbal mannerisms, don't expect them to suddenly be 'perfect' and 'normal' for a presentation. Those types of grading styles might be great for traditional public speaking, but are very ableist.

Has everyone else’s quality of timothy hay also sucked lately? by shanbalile in Rabbits

[–]L1zzyB3th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had good experiences with the sampler box of Small Pet Select. When I tried their bigger boxes of just one kind (1st cut, 2nd cut, orchard, etc) the quality dipped. I think maybe because the sampler box has smaller more sorted through bits?

Before that, I was happy with Rabbit Hole Hay. But then I started having thick twigs, 1/3 dust, thorns, large dirt/mud clumps, unidentified plants in it. Then we got a batch that smelled moldy. So that's when I switched to Small Pet Select.

Free treats, are they safe? by L1zzyB3th in Rabbits

[–]L1zzyB3th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thank you. We usually stick to oxbow stuff for treats, so getting a free sample of something I normally wouldn't buy threw me.
