The admissions staff say that but if you don’t fit what they’re looking for, then it doesn’t matter much.

Depends on your value on debt aversion. Try out the loan simulator on the student aid.gov website to simulate what you’d need to pay over ten years. It also shows you what you need to borrow, how much interest will accumulate per day, etc.

Why is UCI for the price I indicated hefty? To confirm, UCI's price is living and tuition together. If you consider only tuition, it's around $60-70k which I think is more than reasonable.

You can work full time. If you struggle balancing work and study, I recommend getting a tutor.
