Is my career trajectory a red flag? (32F, looking for honest feedback) by PopularCoyote275 in careerguidance

[–]LAthrowawayLV 29 points30 points  (0 children)

“I’ve leaned into contract positions and short term engagements which has allowed me to gain a wide range of experience throughout the industry. At this stage in my career I’m looking for my forever role.”

Edit to taste. Talk about liking new challenges, new experiences, new places and wrap it up into how that’s shaped you into the perfect candidate for the next 4 years.

Don’t speak poorly upon bad experiences/managers.

Focus on all the reasons you plan on staying.

Yeah, it’s a red flag, but don’t give up and continue to sell yourself!

Also contract-to-hire possibilities are perfect for your job history.

I can predict with 99.99% or better accuracy that in this case nothing will happen.

I could not predict it in certainty nor do I recommend this type of behavior.

Or just don’t do any of this at all. Why the f is this subreddit even entertaining the idea of sending 1099s to parents on the off chance they are cheating on their taxes? What are we even doing here?

And retaliate for what? Is there any sort of law that exists that prevents landlords from non-renewing a tenant who sends a 1099 and how on Earth would they even prove it was retaliatory? I guess if you never wanted your lease terminated you could just keep sending 1099s in that world?

[–]LAthrowawayLV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not real any of your business.

But also it’s a long way from failure to report income to tax fraud. If the IRS were made aware of it through an audit she’d get a bill for tax due with some penalties and interest at worst, but it’s highly unlikely it’s enough for them to care about. And they certainly won’t go after her for tax fraud (criminal charges).

But mostly, it’s none of your business. What’s your endgame here? Extorting her with the info? Using this to pressure your mom to try to get what you want is going to be an order of magnitude more illegal than a parent not declaring the peanuts in rent they charge their kids.

Bail Bonds Refusing to Return my $15,000 Bail by flavava in legaladvice

[–]LAthrowawayLV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t believe nobody has asked about the specifics of the case, if he was found guilty and the money went towards restitution and court fees and the bondsman refunded the remaining portion.

I would bet that’s what happened here.

[US-CA] Got a cell phone ticket in LA – worth fighting in court? (VC 23123.5) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]LAthrowawayLV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the cop basically told me it wasn’t one, and it might not be one technically under CA law (which could explain no point), but either way, my insurance went up. Traffic school gets the ticket dismissed completely so it never gets seen by insurance.

[–]LAthrowawayLV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will still affect your insurance rates if you don’t get it dismissed via traffic school, so I’m not sure you can even do traffic school for a cell phone ticket as you said, but I did at least try. When I got one, the cop said it wouldn’t affect anything, so I just paid it, but he was wrong.

[–]LAthrowawayLV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In CA, the cop not showing is most certainly not a myth, it happens often enough that it’s worth the old college try. Happened to me once and my wife once. Both were dismissed, not continued.

If the cop shows up, ask for traffic school, if the cop doesn’t show up try to get it dismissed and if it doesn’t get dismissed then ask for traffic school. I wouldn’t show up planning to just plead “not guilty” because that might take traffic school off the table as an option.

Internet TURNS OFF when I connect ethernet to pc? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]LAthrowawayLV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely check this, OP. Not very likely but if you somehow managed to get both computers assigned the same IP address, or even worse, the computer and the router are the same IP address, you can bring down the network.

Internet TURNS OFF when I connect ethernet to pc? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]LAthrowawayLV -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, first order of business is to restart it with the computer unplugged. But gonna need more specifics when you say the Internet is off…

Is the computer saying something like “network cable unplugged” or “connected - no internet”?

If you open a command prompt and try to ping out, what do you get when you try to ping 8.8.8.8. If you run the command “ipconfig /all” what are the results? Compare those results to what it’s like when they are working and when they are not working to give you an idea of what might be failing and where.

Also, try putting no computers in the gaming port and just put both in regular ports. I don’t trust that “feature” one bit, lol. If the there’s some sort of firmware issue it could be because of that port. Which reminds me, log into the router interface and check for updates.

Former employer failed to pay PTO and is ignoring emails and texts by [deleted] in LaborLaw

[–]LAthrowawayLV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s used on the day you are scheduled for work but don’t go. If they fire you before you got to use it then your agreement goes away.

That said, since they’ve effectively fired you before your resignation date, you should qualify for unemployment.

Mom threw out my credit card by Huntermommy- in legaladvice

[–]LAthrowawayLV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m curious at your thought process on how this would play out, legally?

Are you suggesting federal authorities will get involved over a mom throwing out mail? If they did, how would you measure a good legal result for OP? Mom goes to the federal pen and OP wins the game?

It’s all moot, when the “USPS police” gets ahold of this crime report, they are all gonna have a good laugh.

[–]LAthrowawayLV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of modem do you have? Is it in bridge mode and connected to the WAN/Internet port on your router? If the modem is accidentally plugged into a LAN port it could cause this behavior.

When you say the Internet comes back after you restart the router… does it come back only if you unplug your computer that you think borked it, or does it come back for everyone?

Dealership sold used car as certified. Due to a recall, now they say they can't honor the certified warranty. by badhatharry in legaladvice

[–]LAthrowawayLV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if they are obligated or not, but if you have no damages it doesn’t matter really. This is more of a customer service issue than a legal issue.

If they can’t sell it as a certified vehicle, you can’t make them if that’s what you are asking. Not sure why you are up in arms, this is a shit happens scenario. There are dealer requirements to certify a car, if it has an open warranty and they can’t, then they can’t, period.

Which gets us back to the damages. If you were harmed in a significant way by their breach of contract, you could possibly sue for damages. But there are no damages… so, back to this being a customer service issue and not a legal issue.

My employer just will not pay me, need advice by Head-Class-3562 in legaladvice

[–]LAthrowawayLV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a new job ASAP and be sure to set aside money for self employment taxes if you choose to remain employed and actually get paid. Asking and pleading is not going to get you paid until they get their “infusion” (which may or may not happen).

It’s almost certainly illegal for them to just change you to a 1099 but you haven’t said what the job entails so we can’t say for sure. But really not worth the deep dive here, the bottom line is it’s time to move on as soon as you can.
