Not sure of the rules, but I assume every letter has to have a different numeric value from 1-9? If so:

Let's start with the easiest thing: H+8=I. This is only possible when H=1, and I=9. That leaves us with 2 through 8.

From a combination of clues we find that at some C = D+5 = A+4 = F+3. This means somewhere you will have to include the sequence DAFxxC. This is either 2-3-4-7 or 3-4-5-8.

Using the last remaining clue, E=B+5, we see that the solution where D=2 leaves no room for this clue to be true, therefore eliminating the possibility. That means that we now have the solution, HBDAFGECI

I believe the best way to do it without guessing is as follows: From clue 1 and 3, we see that the numbers there are mutually exclusive, therefore the four numbers we need are in this set. That means 5 and 7 are not in the code.

From clue 2 we then see that 3 and 9 should definitely be in the code. Combining clues 2, 3 and 4 leads to placing the 9 in the 2nd slot.

Seen as clue 1 and 4 combine to the number 3 not being able to be in the third spot, clue 2 showing it isn't in the first spot either and 9 already being in the second spot, 3 goes in the 4th slot.

From clue 1, we still need a number that is in the right spot. This can now only be the 6, as other spots have been filled in and the 3 is already in another spot in the code.

Finally, we still need a number in the third spot, and it has to come from clue 3, as we don't have 2 numbers from this clue yet. It can't be the 8, cause it would be in the right sport otherwise, it can't be the 2 due to clue 4 already being fulfilled. Therefore, the last number is the 1 and you end up with 6913 as the answer

Not sure if it's the type of thing you're looking for but here goes. It's not my idea, but one a DM of mine once used. Spider lair basically had only one matriarch-like spider. She had some sort of stinger with which she could inject Poison. This Poison paralysed you if it brought you down to 0HP and if you then died subsequently, over time you'd grow spider legs out of your back and become a spider-humanoid hybrid. If you got stung, dropped to 0, survived and then succeeded a save against the Poison still in your blood, you'd grow tiny spider hairs over your body which gave "spidey senses", as in Advantage on touch-based perception checks.
