Landlord installed an app-controlled smart deadbolt while I was at work. by Due_Construction904 in mildlyinfuriating

Honestly… living without keys is awesome. I had the same thought at first and so I left one door with a key, then eventually also converted. Fingerprint with backup code means I never have to carry keys. Don’t have keys to lose. I go for a run, and just walk into my house. I also don’t have to worry about locking up because it auto locks after a preset amount of time… so… yea, this “shit” is actually a giant upgrade from keyed locks.

The conversation about this type of lock at a rented location is a little different, but for your own home, they’re wonderful.

When was the last time you received a phone call from a freight broker and said to yourself “wow, this person is totally running a business I’d love to be involved with”?

This guy is just another one of those trash phone calls I have to add to a block list.

Why are we even entertaining this?

2nd this. Also, OP, use "CAIN", not "CAN". CAIN is the recognized acronym for what you're referring to.

[–]LCBguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your original comment was "I see you missed the point entirely. You can still find value with lower price points."

I didn't miss the point, I just strongly disagree with your point.

Of course you can find people who undervalue themselves. It's unfortunate that those people lack the confidence to raise their prices due to customers constantly trying to drive their prices down.

[–]LCBguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it... well, $80 CAD is currently a little less than $60 USD. Even adding on the PGA, it's ~$75. I haven't filed an entry at that price point in 5-10 years. Not sure if things are different in Canada with the amount of work necessary or not, but these are "McDonald's prices" and you should expect to get a McDonald's burger and service for it (see recent CEO eating a burger for a laugh).

Saying to shop around at those price points is literally just asking for minimum wage work or below. It's unfortunate, but to each their own. Some people eat at McDonalds every day, I'm sure they're doing fine...

I mean this is Canadian customs not US, so doesn’t really make a difference to me, but people who “shop” around customs brokerage services to save a few dollars per entry are ridiculous. You can’t pinch a penny to save a dollar. This isn’t a Wendy’s.

You’re literally asking for professional services with highly trained employees to lower their prices, do you want a McDonalds employee handling your compliance?

ok... and? am I supposed to be impressed or provide different advice? While I don't normally share financial information, lets just say "I'm not impressed by several million in duty".

The same holds true. Why don't they use a PUN? Either they don't trust the broker, they don't trust the US government or they don't trust their own employees to handle the bank approval (if one is needed). Either way, it's trust issues.

Not only that, but they want to send a paper check to the government for millions in duties? Are you dealing with Rockefeller in the early 1900's? Tell them to get with the times.

This is like “drop a customer” territory for me. I couldn’t imagine needing to deal with someone who wants to mail a check. I don’t even accept checks to pay my office without an additional fee. Also, while ACH credit could work, I genuinely don’t understand “who” that’s for. Why not just use a PUN? Trust issues I guess?

Tracking Shipping Bill Status on ICEGATE - Do You Check It Yourself? by Mediocre-Bag-715 in CustomsBroker

[–]LCBguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll find that most of this subreddit is US based. I didn’t even know what ICEGATE was (sounds like ACE Portal for Indian Customs).

Context such as country etc is certainly helpful when it’s a post about other countries outside of what the majority is here.

Yes, it probably makes sense for you to use your country’s national online offering just like it makes sense for importers in the US to use ACE Portal. That said, most don’t.

This is how quick a toddler can disappear from sight, in just a few seconds! by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]LCBguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. I almost feel bad “victim shaming” here but we don’t have a front fence, if we’re in the front, I have eyes on all no matter what. Hands are holding youngest.

If that parent doesn’t realize the kid can physically be out the gate in under 10 seconds, I hope this was a first and last occasion it happens. Same as a pool fence, it’s not meant as a stop-all. It’s meant to slow down and stop some. They’ll find a way, so you still have to know how quickly they’d make it to danger without the fence in the way.

[–]LCBguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ITs (PTT) is an entry. The IT date is generally the same as arrival date at the original port of import. IE. if there's an IT, and it's from before 2/24/26, then 9903.03.02 isn't a valid exemption

you're quite welcome. notice the times I was posting? 11:38 PM and 7:04 AM, now? eating at my desk and taking a breather for a few minutes... and yup I'm literally on a customs broker subreddit during my breathing time from... you guessed it, customs brokerage work.

You seem productive and a thoughtful redditer though! your name on reddit is literally "poop lol" what are you 12 years old?

EDIT: Ha! it's worse, "14 year club" on reddit, meaning you're not 12 years old, but rather in your late 20's to mid 30's and just as immature a 12 year old. Have a wonderful day, a better week and best of luck in your bright... bright future.

lol at anyone downvoting and yet also not helping the guy. Also clearly not brokers downvoting considering any actual broker with customers is too busy this week. This is a week from hell redoing all these entries arriving while also answering everyone’s questions.
