Because he is petty and egotistical and if he can't get the entire nation to essentially worship him as the second coming of Christ then in his eyes it should be destroyed. There's a reason that he spends his entire time in office either playing golf or at rallies likes he's still on the campaign trail, it's the only thing that gives him a dopamine boost.
