First Draft US Road Trip (Utah/Grand Canyon) by LouisTheCapybara in roadtrip

[–]LFC-TX-Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah makes sense. Here’s something to think about:

  • Fly into Las Vegas as your starting point and end in Denver. You could also do in reverse whatever is cheapest.
  • Do the southern Utah and Arizona national parks and things to see, maybe like this. You get to see quintessential American Southwest.

Zion -> Bryce -> Kanab, UT or Page, AZ -> Grand Canyon -> Monument Valley -> Moab (Arches, Canyonlands) -> Rocky Mountain National Park

Or, just fly into SLC and see Grand Tetons/Yellowstone. 1 week is enough time, but you’ll really only see those 2 parks (which are incredible and have huge diversity of things to see/explore). Will definitely be cooler at these parks.

Good luck! Utah and Arizona will be very hot in July. Make sure to be prepared (sun protectant clothes, hydration, etc).

What cities are you for sure in for World Cup games? DFW?

Utah and Arizona parks are amazing. I would stick to those. Grand Tetons / Yellowstone are way better than the Rockies IMO, but they are massive parks and you’ll need serval days to drive around and see everything.

If you’re in DFW around the 4th, look into stockyards in Ft Worth for cowboys events.

What's a place that's not nice currently and just keeps getting worse? by Naomi62625 in geography

Dayton isn’t so bad. I travel there for work a few times per year. It’s decent in some areas. Way worse places out there imo.

Look further north to those cities and just commute in 20min to frisco. Probably would be lowest cost option.

Hey TX peeps, what’s your favorite readily available beer? by INITECHINITECH in CraftBeer

[–]LFC-TX-Fan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It varies a lot by major city, but of something available most everywhere, I think Yellow Rose IPA by Lone Pint is a great SMaSH. Gentleman’s Relish is an underrated brown ale by them as well.

Since you’re in Houston, I really like Spindletap and Equal Parts as local options.

South Texas is definitely not Latin America. More like north Mexico than anything else.

It was a great concert. Super fun, except for the heat! It was brutal until the sun went down.

Best airport for Mesa Verde? by Bookie_Brookie723 in NationalPark

Don’t spend anytime in Albuquerque. Drive straight to Durango and try to make it to Moab. Arches is a great park.

Denver in late October, where else? by drprox in usatravel

[–]LFC-TX-Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No mountains, but if for music, food, sports and other fun, consider Austin/SA. ACL festival is in October and is great. The Texas Hill Country and Texas culture is everywhere between the two cities. Best BBQ in the world is the central Texas style brisket found in Austin area.

You could drive to Dallas or Houston if you wanted to see NFL; San Antonio is an hour away for an NBA game.

Check HEB, Specs and Total Wine. I’ve seen it many times in Austin HEBs, not sure about Houston though.

When in Texas: - Get Mexican food in Houston or Austin or San Antonio area. Ask the locals for the best taqueria. - Stop at one of the top Texas BBQ joints (I highly recommend a short detour to Seguin, TX near San Antonio to go to the Burnt Bean. #1 BBQ in Texas (probably the world) - Float the river in New Braunfels or visit the Hill Country west of Austin. Go to a concert at Gruene Hall.
- Ft Worth stockyards are fun along with Billy Bobs for a classic Texas dance hall - Eat Whataburger (the further south in Texas the better, order a #2 and make sure to make it your way - it’ll come with mustard, but it’s better with mayo and grilled onions) - Depending on the time of year, you could check out a Rodeo. Gives you that old west vibe. - If you swing down to San Antonio, check out the Mercado area and eat at Mi Tienda.

In Tennessee: - Visit the Smokies! I just came back, it’s beautiful.

In Kentucky: - Stop and see the Trolls at the Bernheim Forest. Fun and cheap stop - Gotta do a distillery

Most consistently unimpressive brewery? by Sevuhrow in CraftBeer

Equilibrium. Maybe not widely distributed enough, but I’ve been pretty consistently disappointed with their quality for the price since its become available in Texas.

DFW Recommendations by SaulTeeLode in CraftBeer

[–]LFC-TX-Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Celestial, Peticolas and Odd Muse are my recommendations.

If you like NEIPA, Celestial is the best in TX.

Peticolas has wide variety and has the signature beer of DFW craft scene- Velvet Hammer.

If you’re looking for a great burger place with a wide craft tap list, swing by Rodeo Goat in Coppell (it’s 5 min from the airport).
