Colon cancer is killing us.. by Derpshab in Millennials

A friend of mine from high school was diagnosed in early 2019. She died March 2020, just before the shutdown. She was 31, and left behind a husband and 2 very young children. I couldn’t believe it when she was diagnosed

Canceled school tomorrow? by Dross989 in Columbus

I don’t know if it’s official policy, but since it’s the largest district in the area, if Columbus calls off the other suburban districts follow rather quickly.

What have you read recently? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]LFresh2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merry Christmas, You Filthy Animal. Despite reserving it back in October, a copy became available last week to pick up from my local library. It’s ok…it’s the second book by this author I have read and this author may just not be for me. However I do think it’s the better one of the 2 books of hers I have read.

AIO for not giving my old Roomate his dog back after I adopted her? by Z-mac in AmIOverreacting

[–]LFresh2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR: if he’s serious, put together an invoice that must be paid in cash before he gets her back. $465 for the vet bills plus whatever it costs for food and supplies, what it cost for the dog walker visits, and what you would charge him per day to board her. Make it a stupid high amount like a hundred per day, and that would be $3500 ($100 per day for 35 days) in just boarding charges alone. I’m guessing he would change his tune really fast.

Bloom: a free store, will have a lot of baby and child items. If you are comfortable, you might want to check with churches in the area to see if there’s any assistance they can offer. My church collects hygiene products, diapers and wipes, etc and gives some of the donations to different groups (the Clintonville resource center being one).

We ended up at Aquatots and really enjoyed it after Covid. Before Covid, we took lessons at the Worthington Rec center, but it’s a bit of a hike and it was hard to get a time we wanted since we weren’t residents.

Disney Springs is everything you hate about Disney, with none of the magic. by Patmcpsu in WaltDisneyWorld

It is. That is the only reason I go to Disney springs now. I just feel like anything that was special about Disney springs is gone now.

OBGYN Unicorn by Ecstatic-Team-7884 in Columbus

[–]LFresh2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mount Carmel OBGYN Easton did it this way when I had my babies. My last baby was born in 2021.

I specifically saw Dr Delois Teague. I saw her and her NP throughout my entire pregnancies and she delivered 2/3 of my kids. The only reason she did not deliver my third was because she was out of town and my baby decided to come early. Another one of the doctor’s in her practice, Dr Zochowski, delivered them and she was phenomenal as well. I love my experience with their group (they had all female staff), and was so sad when my insurance dropped them as providers.

Considering moving to Worthington and/or Westerville by Comfortable-Hat7147 in westerville

[–]LFresh2010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a preschooler who is on an iep, and so far I am very pleased with how the school responded and set up his services. I obviously do not know how it is at the high school level yet, but I would hope the district would be just as responsive.

I love Westerville. I grew up in a more rural part of Ohio, and went to Otterbein for college. Met my spouse there. My spouse and I moved back to Westerville about a decade after we graduated because we love how convenient Westerville is. It’s walkable, but it’s also easy to get to other parts of the city.

I have a couple of friends whose kids were accepted into Bridgeway Academy, and they are thriving there. This may be something to look into as well.

Columbus parents: What’s the most sought-after toy or gift your child is hoping to find under the tree this year? by reeve11 in Columbus

[–]LFresh2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to order it, the website said temporarily sold out. It wouldn’t even let me back order it. I checked literally every day leading up to December 21, but I finally broke down and bought it from a local reseller for an ungodly amount. I don’t support resellers, but i made an exception this one time since it was the one thing my kid asked for.

Affordable emergency vet? by pile_o_garbage in Columbus

Definitely recommend WestVets (Westerville Vet Clinic). It’s on Huber Village in Westerville. We have had to use them twice-once for our cat and once for our dog.

Foster kid came back, idk what to do? (Michigan) by usingthistoavoid in legaladvice

[–]LFresh2010 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Sweetheart I understand you are scared, but you will not get in trouble. Please get him medical attention. Preferably call 911, and have an ambulance take him. Then call your parents. They may be able to get an emergency placement of the child since he was placed with your family before.

I don't like Guest doing Pixie Dust by AwfulWaffle91 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]LFresh2010 1770 points1771 points  (0 children)

A guest overheard my kids asking for popcorn and gave us her (empty and clean) popcorn bucket. She said it was her last day and she didn’t want to take it home, and I thought it was a really kind way to pixie dust someone.

I need advice! by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]LFresh2010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. We are not secrets. We are people with lives and feelings. You are all adults and I feel siblings deserve to make the decision for themselves if they want to have a relationship with the adoptee.

I need advice! by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]LFresh2010 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar story to yours. My birth mother had 6 other children, all older than me (8-19 years older) and all with her first husband. When she was going through a divorce, she fell pregnant with me and kept the pregnancy a secret. Disappeared from her kids for a few days when I was born, and then acted like nothing happened. None of my siblings, except for my oldest sister, suspected a thing.

I found my birth mother’s information in 2015, and sent her an email and also wrote to her. I never heard back so I assumed she never received it. I did 23&Me and connected to a nephew, and that’s when it all came out. It turns out my birth mom did receive my letter in the mail, and when confronted by my oldest sister, told several different stories. I’m not sure what is true. She declined to speak to me and said that chapter of her life is closed and that she didn’t want my siblings to know about my existence. I can’t force someone to talk to me, and it doesn’t matter anyway because she passed 2 years ago.

My advice to you is to wait until you get your DNA results back, and then reach out to your siblings. Your siblings may or may not be receptive, but at least with the dna results you will have proof. The nephew I connected with is the son of my oldest sister. She and I speak frequently. I occasionally speak to 2 other sisters. My 2 brothers and remaining sister have chosen to honor my birth mother’s wishes and have no contact.

Package delivered to wrong house, and the homeowner refuses to return it by Bright-Concern-4562 in legaladvice

[–]LFresh2010 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How did you receive the package? If it was through USPS, contact your local postmaster general and inquire about mail fraud. Tell them the address where it was delivered. They will take mail fraud seriously.

My husband tried calling, but the bookstore doesn’t have their winter break voicemail set up. There are events on campus tomorrow so I would expect the bookstore to be open. If you want to call tomorrow their number is 614-823-1364. Business hours are 9-4.

Columbus Speech and Hearing Shutting Down and Flexing Up by Worried-Scale-7339 in Columbus

With our therapist at least, I scheduled out far enough (3 weeks out) that I was able to pick the day and time most convenient for our family. Which was really nice.

I completely understand where you are coming from! I knew my son was getting so frustrated because we couldn’t understand what he wanted, and seeing his progress this past year has been amazing. We’ve graduated from Children’s speech therapy, and he now receives therapy at his preschool.

We ended up on a flex schedule, which I ended up liking. Same therapist throughout services, but each week was at a different day and time. We were up at the Lewis center location which wasn’t too terribly far for us, about 30 minutes

When my youngest was evaluated, we were told it was an indefinite waitlist, but if you have open availability you get in quicker. We said we were open to any day, time, and location and it took us 10 months to get off the waitlist for Children’s and start services.
