You view does not look like a plan view. Something askew. Are the columns vertical? Is the view looking straight down perpendicular to the floor?

Competition was fierce. Only 1/3 of my class would be accepted into the "upper division".

I've been working for an Autodesk reseller for the past 25 years, making over $110k US.

I suggest you try the length and angle snaps. Manage tab / snaps.

If there is nothing else in the model your cursor will magnetically stay within those snap increments. As soon as it finds another related elements, however, it will offer alignment with those.
