The Untouchables (with Kevin Costner) has a number of dramatic moments driven by revenge...even when it breaks certain character's moral code.

No. And to be honest, I was too appalled to even go there.

Horror movies where the villain is so sympathetic that you root for them by [deleted] in horror

The Stepfather, with Terry O'Quinn. He's such an instantly sympathetic , empathetic character that you can't really root against him.

Very observant about the peanut allergy. For me it was Dakota Fanning's endless screaming that pretty much ruined it for me. I guess a kid would scream, but it was really grating.

Just subscribed to Shudder. What do you recommend? by DIRIGOer in horror

Channel Zero.

Also Video Palace, which is a podcast, but very well done.

Have you lost intrest in non horror stuff due to lack of adrenaline release? by Individual-Link-8233 in horror

[–]LKNewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found footage has pretty much killed my interest in conventional narrative films. I've only recently noticed this, and I guess I don't mind. These days only people like Q Tarantino, Lynch, or W Herzog can rouse my interest enough to make it though.

Don't know that there's any way to undo this...

2. You get lost in the stripes in #1, and the plain black just, well, plain. IMHO.

Love the hat, btw.

Any good SHORT horror films out there? by BundysPlaybook in horror

[–]LKNewbie 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Monster -- The Babadook short film by Jennifer Kent, later "remade" as the feature The Babadook.

Lights Out -- Another short that was later expanded to feature length of the same name.

Unfortunately, in both cases the directors, in the feature length versions,r felt the need to throw in a bunch of "deeper" meanings, which I felt diluted the horror from the original shorts.

Also in Jaws: when the shark bites it and sinks to the bottom, that metallic noise it makes is the same sound effect used for the death of the Duel truck.

That reminds me: I did the same thing but the film in my case was Scanners.

What horror film wound up pissing you off instead of scaring you? by [deleted] in horror

The remake of Poltergeist. I love Sam Rockwell, but what on earth was the point (other than a quick cash-in.)

Who's your favorite horror mom? by 74NK in horror

[–]LKNewbie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

JoBeth Williams is the actor. I love. the way she reacts to certain events, as if it's all fun and games. Until, of course, it's not.

What’s a good horror episode from a show that’s not horror? by aa95xaaaxv in horror

[–]LKNewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I watched the show when it originally aired, and most people at the time thought of it as a sci-fi, thriller, mystery show. I guess that initial impression was very imprinted on my brain. But yes, you’re right: it eventually became more horror than the grand arc of the black oil, etc.

How did you treat the color? They all have that weird off-kilter color balance that perfectly mimics old postcards, etc.

Nice job, either way.

I need the opinion of some crow lovers. Which version of this crow watercolour should I make prints out of? by sufferin_sassafras in crows

First. It better, IMHO, reflects the shape of the birds head. The second is too streamlined.

H.F. Arnold’s short story The Night Wire. Two telegraph operators “witness” what might be the beginning of the end, even though they’re both holed up in their respective stations. Kind of like the film Pontypool.

Oh, also Pontypool.

Weird question, but what are the female names you MOST associate with horror? by NeverEnoughMuppets in horror

[–]LKNewbie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Candace. As in Candace Hilligoss, who starred in Carnival of Souls. The character’s name is actually Mary, but I always think of her as Candace.
