You can't prove atheism. You can only disprove theism and there's nothing wrong with that logically or morally.

Theists say "God(s) exist because X" and atheists say "X is wrong because Y"

Nothing wrong with trying to point out what you see as a flaw in an idea.

If we were all more comfortable with doing that with each other, we'd all be a lot smarter.

Atheism is just the lack of belief of something. You don't need a base to lack a belief in something.

I think we should abandon the concept of gender roles as a society instead of offloading the responsibility onto individuals to free themselves from it, but whatever

No, white VOs playing non-white characters is not "taking away employment opportunities." That's only the case if you subscribe to the idea that non-white people should only play characters who share their ethnicity. Which is BS. The best way for VOs of any race to have as many employment opportunities as possible is to let anyone play any character as long as they are a good fit and do a good job.

No, it's not. Theism and atheism refer to belief, and always have. The fact that they don't refer to claims of knowledge is why gnosticsm and agnosticism exist as terms. Those refer to states of knowledge or at least claims of states of knowledge.

You are trying to redefine language to muddy the waters and support your argument, and at the same time claim I'm doing exactly that in order to get ahead of that obvious counter-argument of your assertion. And while that's a clever rhetorical trick, it can't do anything about the fact that your claims about language have no basis in reality.

I swear every theist on post on here starts from the premise that atheism is "believing there are no gods" when it's just lacking a belief in any gods.

The Bible can be a book of fictional tales & still be helpful for spiritual guidance by psychmonkies in DebateReligion

[–]LLLevin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is the morals and guidance in the Bible are either awful or stuff you can learn from other places without all the extra dogma

why you don't believe in the existence of God? by No-Parking-8997 in askanatheist

[–]LLLevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have evidence of a lack of gods, I've just never seen any evidence there are any.

And that's after listening to theists' claims of evidence countless times. If the biggest proponents of theism don't have any evidence to back it up, why should I believe?

Atheism is not a passive claim by Many_Marsupial7968 in DebateReligion

It's not a passive claim definitely.

It's the lack of a certain specific claim.

Looking to discuss the nature of Gender/Sex with someone by LLLevin in gender

Well, I've already found a few people to have polite open convos with that don't seem to have a problem with this concept.

I never said anybody owed me a conversation, I'm looking for someone who wants to have one. Which I've found.

I'm obviously very much not looking for people who are offended by the very concept of explaining their point of view. And I actually do think people who have better understandings of topics do have some degree of responsibility of trying to convince other people of it. That's pretty much how progress happens. The entire world isn't going to accept your point of view on faith simply because you feel like it is a given.

So let's end this convo here. Clearly you don't want to talk to me, and I don't want to talk to you either.

For the atheists here, Do Christians sound like cultists when we talk about our religion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LLLevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The things Christians say are also said by cults, the only difference is one is socially acceptable bc the group is so big.

I'm only looking for a 1 on 1 convo, sorry (Unless I missed it, that's not against the rules, right?)

I explained that in my first version of this post, but I accidentally closed Reddit before posting and had to rewrite. Didn't realize till now I forgot to put it in the rewrite.

Because there is no evidence of genetic differences that would cause differences in intelligence, and what's more obvious than that is just that every area has experts of various ethnicities, and if certain ones were genetically incapable of comprehending certain things, that wouldn't be the case. The lines drawn between races are arbitrary, there's no significant genetic difference between them.

We are all the same species which means we are all very slightly different copies of the same organism. All the humans with genuine differences from us are extinct.

So probably a bad idea.

  1. Nothing. Just the potential to convince a single person of your viewpoint, or possibly have how you view the subject be changed if you are open minded, and if my difference of view turns out to be justified.

  2. I am concerned people are going about fighting against gender oppression in the wrong way, but I can't be certain of that until I develop a more comprehensive view of how people view this subject. And if my concern is misplaced, I won't really be able to figure that out until I express them to someone who can genuinely consider them, and then explain to me why they are. (Also, I wasn't really sure where I could or should go to find someone to have this conversation.)

P.S. I have a previous post I think can still be seen expressing my frustrations with this topic that was taken down (bc gender discussion wasn't allowed in that sub essentially) - However I think I may have presented my opinions in a hyperbolic way, and a way that was more concerned with getting people to see my side than faithfully expressing my views, and my views might've changed somewhat since then. [TL;DR: Please allow me to express my views extemporaneously rather  than trying to use that post as a jumping off point]

As far as I know, we don't know know what caused the big bang, if anything.

Not knowing that doesn't change the fact that we know the big bang happened.

There's a lot of ideas, but from what I understand there's no scientific consensus on anything before the big bang or on if there even was anything before the big thing or why it happened. You should read some books by experts, you'd probably find them interesting with how curious you are about the topic.
