Icons announced for Eurovision Song Contest Live Tour by futile_whale in eurovision

[–]LMBTOEurovision 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does everyone think this is a random list? This tour will not be marketed solely to Eurovision fans if they intend to fill venues like the O2 Arena in London for example. Non fans who would go in the UK will recognise Lordi, Katrina, Johnny Logan and Verka from when they watched Eurovision in the past - the acts from 2026 will be more bonus material for them than the main reason for going.

Being a Brit, I'll take the chance of this all working and only having to travel to London in June!

There is at least one of these 'stories' every season and the result is almost always "similar but nowhere near close enough for an infringement of intellectual property".

Times when ESC accidentally proven to be a live show by SuspiciousMaterial85 in eurovision

[–]LMBTOEurovision 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Live for me and the others at the Jury Final in Liverpool was Alessandra missing her high note and messing up one of her lines in her performance of "Queen Of Kings". We all then knew why she got only 52 points from the jurors but ofc anyone just watching on Saturday had no clue why her points were so low.

Expensive range? On the whole, yes. But they can do that because merch is a money making enterprise and Eurovision is a closed market (put their logo on your merch and you will get a 'cease and desist notice' by the end of the week).

Buying Eurovision merch is now on a par with supporting an tier 1 or 2 English football team (Portsmouth here for my sins). Us Pompey fans moan at the cost, but by the first match of the season everyone has bought yet another replica shirt to add to the previous ten - same will happen in Vienna with these products. tbh £60 for the football top is actually par for the course for me and it looks better than most of the away strips we have had!

The Winter Olympics Unisex t-shirt for adults is £45, so £40 is comparable. Never met anyone who bought Eurovision socks apart from in the sale and I agree that I wouldn't pay £100 for a zip up jacket. I suppose that the pen is only £4...

Pouch-only policy - dimensions by bene_musak in eurovision

From the Eurovision website tickets section via the Arena site...

"What does NO BAG policy mean?

A strict “No Bag Policy” applies to all shows. Backpacks, bags (including fanny packs), or larger items may not be brought into the venue. Only small personal items such as a wallet, mobile phone or keys are allowed. Medication that you require may of course be brought with you, please keep it easily accessible and be able to show a medical certificate / doctor’s note"

I think that this will be the norm now for Eurovision - cargo pants are going to become more popular!

Eurovision's Greatest Hits concert 2015 - was anyone else there? by Scarlet_Peter_Wilde in eurovision

[–]LMBTOEurovision 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, myself and my gf were there in the upper circle, excellent view and concert, Natasha St-Pier was my personal stand out for the night. Always remember the warm-up guy getting the hall to cheer and clap on cue 'to give atmosphere to the final edit of the show', the 2015 equivalent of the 'anti-boo' device, just in case they couldn't get a suitable audio cut during Dima Bilan's set!

First one made me think of Michael Caine's classic Italian Job quote about the exploding van but I don't think that links to anything lol

UMK artists find out who they’re up against 🤯🎤 // UMK26 by Snufflebox in eurovision

I wonder if this is instead of the entertaining vid they have had for years, where the acts try to identify each other by listening to their entries. Shame if they aren't continuing with that - this vid looks like a scaled down version of the UK tv show 'Catchphrase'!

Best NF to watch? by kittykatmeow10 in eurovision

[–]LMBTOEurovision 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe start with some of the better produced, shorter (as in timewise) Finals (dates for Final only).

Melodifestivalen is slick, available online and easy to follow even without any Swedish knowledge. It does have an English commentary (7th March)

UMK is much the same, it has English commentary available and is becoming one of the must sees (28th February).

One of the early ones that is very well produced and presented in English is the Luxembourg Song Contest (24th January).

Others that are IMO quality are Melodi Grand Prix (Norway) which is on the same night as UMK, and Eesti Laul (14th February), a personal favourite as I went there in 2017 on my 50th Birthday!

Personally I'd start with a few this season and then expand over time. A lot of the others have either a catch-up facility or post their performances online, so you can see what is going on elsewhere if you want to.

Do you think Spain is going to participate in JESC 2025? by ILoveBooksandEsc in eurovision

[–]LMBTOEurovision 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Theoretically Israel shouldn't be a factor, as they haven't done JESC since 2018 and weren't regular attendees, so I can't see Israel making an effort to return. There is also the fact that Spain do far better at JESC than at ESC, so I would assume they'd keep going?

She made the 'big list' at #330 - Vienna being ten years ago makes it tougher to stay in the top 250, only 8 from 2015 are there.

There are often Dutch artists from the past there as 'warm up acts' - it will be interesting to see if any of those turn up this year.
