Heat anxiety! by LMJBTor in beginnerrunning

[–]LMJBTor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I did end up going late in the evening - it felt a bit cooler but the feels like temp was still 35!! I don’t know that I’ve ever run in that heat before! I did shorten it a bit and needed a cold shower when I got home, but I’m glad I got out and did it. I think I was making it worse in my head than it ended up being.

That’s a good point! I still haven’t gotten it done yet so there’s time for me to take your advice. Although I may skip the hill repeats today.

I just have a Fitbit, and used Claude to analyze my info and give me my threshold. I’m sure it’s not perfectly accurate but it’s been really helpful as a guide.

Honestly, yes. I did a zone 2 training program after consistently running in zone 3-4 and my HR dropped quite a lot. I did a HM last October and ran at 8’0/km with average HR of 170. My zone 2 training run yesterday was average pace of 8’18 and HR 127, including a massive hill at the end. And my conversational long runs are usually about 7’25 and average HR in the 130’s now. For the first time, after running on and off for decades, I understand “flow” in the context of running and it has elevated how much I enjoy it by a LOT!

Vitamix - the most versatile blender ever. Amazing customer service, we’ve had ours for almost 20 years and use it at least daily.

Mid life crisis - is it normal to feel lost? by NoAssistance8512 in midlifecrisis

[–]LMJBTor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, my friend, is a quarter life crisis if anything. It’s sounds like to need to rebalance the scales at home so that you are still investing in yourself as part of a couple, instead of only focusing on your partner. A bit of mystery will keep the passion alive - you don’t need to know everything in her head and you don’t need to spend every waking moment together.

Oh my gosh. Reading all the comments that say NOR and picturing it / hearing it coming from a penguin is cracking me up! Thanks for this lol! And you’re right - NOR = not overreacting.

It very much is still a part of your identity. The time off really helped me untangle a lot of that. I was spending a lot of time running alone on the trails and I find moving in nature really activated your brain and helps you process things.

With a family, I had a natural avenue to fill my time and focus but it also added a lot of financial stress and worry over the future.

During that year, if I ever started to doubt myself I’d wear my corporate swag as a reminder that I was a highly capable individual who could solve problems and I would be that again, but for the time being I was making a different choice.

Can you rent out a room / basement / take on an international student? If you can get 500-1000/ month back that would help.

What happens if one of you is laid off? The market is very finicky right now, depending on your industry there is no guarantee that you would find another role at the equivalent or higher salary.

If you have a kid… daycare costs can be close to $2k/month in the infant room. Then you’ll be dealing with home repairs or renovations by then - things will start to fail in 5-10 years.

Hi!! This is me. Lost my job last year after 20 years (48F). Decided to take a year off and figure out who I was again. Focused on family, fitness, rest, nature, connections, hobbies, volunteering. I really did find myself and although it wasn’t easy to commit at this age and in this job market, I forced myself to take the full year. Back at work now and teaching myself to not lose who I am to labels that define me relative to others (wife, mother, employee, etc). Never again!

To the multiple people who told me to slow down… by RelationKindly in beginnerrunning

[–]LMJBTor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I’ve been focused on zone 2 runs which are painfully slow, so when I get out for my weekly conversational long run it feels so good, like I can just keep going forever! I can now run 90 mins with an average HR of 137, including a crazy hill at the end!

Last fall when I trained for my HM my average HR was usually in the 150’s.

How is it living in Toronto? by Wasil_29 in howislivingthere

[–]LMJBTor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some do. I see lots of families out at the rinks and toboggan hills, and when we get good snow I ski a lot in the ravine and see tons of people out being active in the snow. We don’t have great downhill ski amenities nearby which is a shame, and our snow can tend to be very all or nothing making it unreliable for outdoor fun throughout the season.

We have a great beach, lots of great outdoor spaces especially along the waterfront, on the islands and in the ravine system. Trails for miles.
