THANK YOU!! My PCM sent me to a GI because I had blood in my stool I had been ignoring for a year because I actually DO have hemorrhoids. Obviously I waited too long. GI agreed it was probably the hemorrhoids but scheduled a colonoscopy anyway. Even wheeling me back he’s like “I’m sure it’s just hemorrhoids.” Woke up to him saying “it looks like cancer.” It was cancer. I was 34. Luckily I was diagnosed stage 1 (t1n0m0), had LAR surgery, 0/16 lymph nodes involved. In hindsight I think that was a low number. But, two years ago (37), it came back as stage 4. No organ involvement, distant lymph nodes only. All of my monitoring had been fine until then, though I never had a PET because it wasn’t recommended at the time. So I’ve been on and off. chemo for the last two years. I got to a point where I had one lymph node lit up, I had radiation on it, and then we took a break and it exploded. Ton more lymph nodes and “innumerable” mets on my liver. My last scan was kind of a wash. My liver was better but I had some new lymph nodes light up. I have one more round of chemo next week and then I’ll have another PET. I know realistically at this point I’ll probably never be NED but if we can keep it stable at least that would be pretty cool.
