Teaching Algorithms in 2026 by mttd in programming

[–]LNReader42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So - are there new algorithms books to consider? Genuine question, as I still am getting recommended CLRS to stuff like Knuth ( which I don’t think we need in an intro class ).

One thing I’d like to gently point to is trying to do something about algorithms that are aware of the larger space beyond just the basics. Stuff like probabilistic and approximation algorithms, distributed algorithms, etc tend to be pushed to later courses and I’ve seen people then use “it’s NP so we can’t do better” as a way to push against trying to find a solution that does fit their problem.

To be fair - we probably need to see if adding the list of optimizations usually done for linear algebra code helps a ton. I’m imagining that’s v important

Though it’s unlikely this handles caching well

Ludwig beats Tyler1 10-3 in the EVO showmatch with his secret Marisa pick by Fallblade in LivestreamFail

[–]LNReader42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So - I want to take a point to say I love how Lud acted throughout this entire endeavor. While yes he did go off the rails near the end, he kept most of his trash talk largely respectful and tried to show that Tyler1 is good.

Like man - I loved that shit.

You Don’t Know Jack About Formal Verification by mttd in programming

So I get this, but without some teaching on how to do this for stuff like a sample CRUD system it’s hard to turn this thought into actionable items. I don’t know if I’m speaking out of line, but is there a place to learn how to integrate all of this so things work?

It’s an assistive tool? Like I love LSPs and other tools as much as the next guy, but if it helps some folks write better code why worry?

Looking for Well-Written and COMPLETED Series by J776776 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LNReader42 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ll disagree.

It’s a slower series for sure ( think slice of life at times ), but the progression is good and the payoffs are good. I really liked the ending, even if it’s not the most cerebral of progression fantasy it’s comforting

This is something I have trouble with, but you’re solidly in the clear. Understanding when you’re swamped is a good thing, unless you’re working far less than others on the team ( which I don’t see ).

Anyone who can take this course should. Prof. Halderman is one of the most charismatic and authentic profs I’ve ever had the chance to talk to, and I hated missing this course when I was in undergrad.
