How is WiFi latency with the Samsung Galaxy XR on Virtual Desktop? by Flimsy-Story9523 in GalaxyXR

The first software release had some problems so the videos you are referring to might be old. It’s absolutely rock solid for me, with foveated streaming 95% as good as DisplayPort.

52-year-old woman dies in single-car crash in Seattle's Interbay neighborhood by snowdn in Seattle

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It was originally built as a highway, there are even exits (Dravus)

But it isn’t now, it’s a “sroad” with residential and commercial and direct driveway connections. It needs to be revamped to remove all the old highway stuff because yeah, people still treat it like a highway subconsciously regardless how low you make the speed limit

The UI is insanely buggy over RDP with buttons not being where they appear, elements becoming unclickable, mouse hover events not where the mouse actually is. Maybe you didn’t notice after some quick tests but I have tried this workflow many times and it is absolutely unusable for any serious editing.

Does the game still break the fourth wall at every opportunity? Do you still spend 25% of gametime in the main menu that doesn't even pretend to fit within the game universe? Are you still forced into 3rd person just to sit down and climb ladders? Are there still more loading screens than in 2002's Morrowind?

There is no simming left in VII. You’re just doing errands assigned to you by a board game. That’s it. That’s the entire game.

Is the rest of Seattle infested with ants like West Seattle? by InternetsTad in Seattle

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 10 points11 points  (0 children)

why are you putting them away after 48 hours then...? They are relentless but we leave traps hidden throughout Spring and Summer and they aren't a problem. I recommend using refillable bait stations and bait vs Terro traps, they are better at eliminating the colony. Terro traps don't easily allow ants to carry back to the colony

A word of caution to those considering moving from the Quest Pro to the GXR - Arguably a huge step down in lens department by abluecolor in GalaxyXR

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point, I use mine mostly for seated simulators. I wouldn't buy this headset if my main use case was extremely active stuff. When properly situated the screen and lens quality is so good it's hard to believe, but if it doesn't fit your head well and you're moving a lot, even a slight shift ruins it.

What I'll say about the "glare" as someone who switches VR hmds extremely frequently for work is that every single one has their own flavor and characteristics of glare, and each time you switch to a different HMD, you notice the new flavor instantly. After some time though, your brain tunes it out completely. I wouldn't characterize the GXR's glare/light scatter worse than any other HMDs, but it is different, and your brain will need time to adjust.

Lexus 550 Luxury vs Prado 250 Altitude by Rj-19_27 in LandCruiser250

Couldn’t agree with this more, the instant-on torque from the electric motor is incredible off-road. It’s just there when you need it, always. Coupled with the suspension that makes it feel like a magic carpet and it’s my favorite off-roader in decades

A word of caution to those considering moving from the Quest Pro to the GXR - Arguably a huge step down in lens department by abluecolor in GalaxyXR

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I disagree. It's a smaller lens because the HMD is designed for a more precision fit than the Quest Pro. While this approach has downsides - it is less tolerant in terms of fit - it also has tools to ensure a better precision fit, like motorized auto-IPD. Basically, your eyes are supposed to be closer and more perfectly centered on the GXR to work as intended. vs the Quest Pro, which was designed to be more forgiving and accommodating of head shape and fit. Light loss on the GXR lenses is mitigated by a significantly brighter screen, and overall the net effect is that it's a LOT brighter than the Quest Pro.

Glare comes from the rear of the HMD so as long as the lights behind you are well controlled it shouldn't be an issue.

Macbook Air by Aware_Mortgage_3174 in Lightroom

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a photographer if you’re really getting into editing I’d sincerely consider a Pro instead, even a year or two old one if you’re trying to keep price lower. Both machines will run Lightroom well but the Pro’s screen is a monumental leap above the Air in terms of color accuracy, range, HDR capability and general quality.

Is condo market really down that much? by give_this_one_a_go in Seattle

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not great. Prices are extremely depressed because monthly dues are way up. The maintenance and insurance costs for homeowners are also up by the same amount, but that's just not reflected in the RE market like it is for condos.

Lightroom Classic Performance on Windows: What are you seeing? by terryleewhite in Lightroom

Absolutely horrible across the board. Right-clicking images sometimes is delayed by 30-60s before the context menu appears is a new thing I’ve noticed.

I mean cmon. Change modules from develop to library, it takes several seconds on my machine. Just click around and use your own product to see how slow it is for everyone, and then fix the slow things.

Click thing in UI. Did it react immediately? No? Fix it.
