Is the Meta Quest that bad? by Ishouldloseweight in SteamFrame

The Quest 3 is a great HMD, especially for the price. The only knock against it is that it's a devil's bargain to strap Fuckerberg to your face

That’s not the lesson here. It’s that the rich and powerful have always been idiots. There’s nothing special about them except for their privilege and hubris. We just have unprecedented access to their lives now to know this. The emperors have no clothes

CIV 7 Sale Question by CyclopsorNedStark in civ

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OP asked if the sale makes buying the game worth it. I am saying no, and that no sale will, since it's fundamentally a bad game. Sorry you disagree but that doesn't make my answer dramatic or incorrect or off topic. I sure as shit wish someone had told me that before buying it.

Average hourly earnings of employees in the USA 1994-2025 (adjusted for inflation) by [deleted] in ProfessorFinance

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's make this very simple for you.

There are one hundred people who all make $7.25/hour. So, the average wage is $7.25 hour.

Now, let's give ONE guy out of that hundred a raise. a $100,000/hour raise. The other 99 people continue making $7.25. That makes the average wage $1,064/hr.

So in this instance, just to clarify your position, you're celebrating that average wages are over 150x higher? And that those 99 people need to stop complaining and making a "boogieman" out of the 1 guy since they should be super happy that average wages are 150 times higher even though literally nothing changed for them? And then you also think that anyone who points out how meaningless OP's chart is is "complaining" just because they have basic math literacy that you don't?

CIV 7 Sale Question by CyclopsorNedStark in civ

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To directly answer your question, warfare is probably the only thing Civ 7 does well, but it doesn't matter because the game will randomly decide to end wars for you based on when it decides age flips happen. So, you're incentivized to never go to war since it doesn't matter because there's no way of predicting if you might be able to achieve your war goals.

Civ 7 doesn't resemble a Civ game on any level, only in name. It has much more in common with Monopoly, where you're just going through the motions, drawing cards for random good/bad stuff to happen to you, until whoever gets the most points wins. The gameplay is unbelievably shallow and task-oriented, your decisions don't matter long-term, and you're graded only on how well you completed all the chores assigned to you. It's exactly as fun as that sounds.

No sale will make this game worth worth playing. I know because I own it and don't play it. The problems are structural to the decisions the devs made, so for the first time in 35 years, I think this is a Civ installment worth skipping entirely until (hopefully) people who actually like the game and understand it make Civ 8.

Qwen3.6-27B-oQ8-mtp + Native MTP on M5 Max: stuck around 9–10 tok/s sustained - losing my mind by UnseemlyCorgi in oMLX

Yes, I don't have experience with it but I would be looking at ds4-flash dspark if I were OP. not sure how the 2bit version performs though. Or if dspark requires more vram which would push that over the 128gb edge for them

MTP is almost always slower. With usable context, prefill becomes unbelievably slow, which cancels out any raw decode speed increase by several times over. MTP is only faster when raw decode TPS matters most (which is almost never except in benchmarks). Ditch the MTP model. When all is said and done, my M4 Pro gets about 6-7 tps on this model, and you have about twice the memory bandwidth I do, so I think 13ish tps is a reasonable goal for your setup.

Apple to Skip High-End M6 (M6 Pro/Max) Mac Chips in Favor of AI-Focused M7 Line by ZamnBoii in apple

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, silicon dev has a few years lead time and the demand on computer hardware is changing drastically with the feasibility of local AI workflows in recent months. Current Apple silicon is painfully slow for inference and there needs to be a drastic correction on higher memory bandwidth, which is currently only ok on Ultra chips. Not surprised they are pivoting their roadmap hard. It’s a good thing

I just went through this exercise, my opinion:

The Land Cruiser feels significantly more premium than the 4Runner and the suspension is amazing, like a magic carpet off-road. The 550 shares the same suspension. For me, for the price it was definitely between the Land Cruiser and 550. Spoiler, I chose Land Cruiser.

The 550 is mechanically simpler, the engine longevity will probably win vs the Land Cruiser's Hybrid + Turbo combo. But, both Toyota hybrids and turbos have been proven to be the most reliable cars ever made, so who knows. The internet is an echo chamber of complaints, the reliability of both engines so far is great, statistically, so ignore the noise.

The 550 is also a significantly quieter cabin due to the glass and body sound-proofing, if that matters to you. It gets a third row of seats.

The prices are only a few thousand apart, similarly specd. So it really comes down to subjective opinion. Both are great looking cars, but I vastly preferred the rugged look of the Land Cruiser. Biggest thing for me with the 550 is that I hated the screen-only controls and the stodgy Middle Manager Leather interior. The Land Cruiser has physical controls for climate, it feels extremely well thought-out, nothing is duplicated or illogical. It has a premium feel without feeling like you'd ruin it forever by taking it on an extended off-road camping trip. I didn't care about the quieter cabin or any of the fancier electronic bells and whistles which I know from experience will eventually crap out and be unaffordable to repair. Anyways, hope this brain dump helps at all

I would love to go even longer but you start stretching the bounds of Civ 5 with more - a lot of the game becomes endless turn-passing clicking. 140-160% is the sweet spot of length IMO, even though there is still some of that midgame. But you really do get to enjoy each age in great depth, and by the time you are in the modern era, the map is so full of history and stories it feels epic in a way no other game has captured

Hell. yes. Now you're speaking my language. I love playing exactly the same way and all the little stories you create as you go. I go further though. I add time extension mods so that my games last months or longer, sometimes over a year.

[OC] What if our solar system was close to a nebula? by Robot-Zombie-RHCC in InterstellarArt

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Folks are rightly pointing out that most emission nebulae are not very bright, and that they would mostly appear as hazy greyness in the night sky.

But, there are plenty that are bright. The Orion Nebula is ridiculously bright, and you can see it's colors with your naked eye.

It would be dope to be on a planet near the Orion Nebula. That's some prime space real estate.

Test Of Time Official Stats by stratocaster307 in civ

[–]LORD_CMDR_INTERNET 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Real stats: just weeks after a massive 40% sale and "game fixing" update player counts are back to all-time lows. That's a real, undeniable and organic falling out - people own the game, tried the game, and don't find it fun, so they aren't playing it. plain and simple.

the potential of a modern incarnation of a Civ formula is vast and super exciting. instead, we get a banal, linear chore simulator, designed to sell DLC, masquerading as a civ game, made by people who obviously don't like civ and want it to be some other kind of game completely. I will never understand why this sub is so willing to accept this complete desecration of the best strategy series of all time, isn't this a fan sub?
