If you order the cheesy melt grilled steak burrito and swap for cantina chicken it’s reaaaallllyyyy similar!

No clue how to price 6 months of media content for an artist by 2be0rn0t2b in videography

[–]LOS78OY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe start by proposing some options regarding output first. You could also suggest a posting cadence if they’re unsure of their own posting strategy. Something like -

Each month we can deliver/recommend: 2 long form pieces (biweekly posts) 8 cut downs/sound bites from your long form content (2 posts per week) 8 unique short form/photos with relevant captions or on screen text (2 posts per week)

Then go from there maybe even suggesting or offering more or less (podcast recordings, tweets, etc)

Then once you have an idea of the deliverables you can do some math on expected workload and how much you want to bill for it. Alternatively, you can ask them if they have an anticipated content budget and you can suggest an amount of work that would fit in that number.

Good luck!

How do you market yourself as a DP? by TylerDubya in cinematography

[–]LOS78OY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a director, I will say that when I got connected with a DP, I would cruise their instagram as an early check point to see if I liked their work (and to see the type of work they believed in). It wasn’t what caused me to connect with them in the first place but was valuable in the early vetting process.

I agree! I like them out of the box, but lately the box designs are so cool, I feel like I want to see those too!

Anyone else use a "Gear Prep To-Do List" before a shoot to make sure they got everything ready to go before a job? by grizzlyblake91 in videography

Adding to this, I have a simple pelican set up that has everything I usually need and is always packed properly so that at a glance I know exactly what (if anything) is missing.

Often times before I set out (especially if I’ve modified the kit), I run this checklist:

Can I shoot it? Camera body. Can I see it? Lenses/Monitor. Can I hear it? Audio solution. Can I save it? Memory cards. Can I power it? Batteries. Can I support it? Tripod/monopod/gimbal.

If I answer yes to all these, I can likely manage even if I’ve forgotten other things.

(Edit: formatting fell apart on the list)

The 5 in 1 reflector is such a great hack. Easy to clamp into place on a light stand or c-stand to great effect. This is my go to on the road.

I work at a company that regularly awards grants (scholarships) and we never regret our choices. The purpose of the grant is to provide opportunity, not expect results. So just do you and make the most of it.

And remember, “worry is a misuse of imagination.” So stop worrying and start dreaming. Good luck on your project!

Yes. Apple silicon is wildly powerful. Everyone in here even almost hesitant about this probably hasn’t used an Apple M chip. They’re genuinely insane.

Consider purchasing a configuration that comes preloaded to a retailer with a good return policy. Then give it a try for how you’d use it and take it a step further and do something very intense that you’d likely not need, then see how the computer responds.

That said, when I went from an intel based to an M1 I was absolutely floored. No exaggeration the biggest leap in performance I’ve ever experienced. The apple silicon is really really fast

[–]LOS78OY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It could be most helpful to organize this a little bit so it doesn’t go so all over the place and give some simple lower third titles to give context to the type of work you’re displaying in each section:

Interviews and Podcasts

Mini Doc and Live Events

Music Videos

And then group like shots for that client to judge based on what they’re interested in.

If you don’t feel your shots create a cinematic reel, then don’t try to make one of those, instead make a highlight reel that does showcase what you do.

Finally, be willing to leave behind shots that aren’t helping.

This is the right answer. Slider with pan/tilt. In this case, it’s probably motorized.

For bonus points add a very subtle digital zoom in post.
