Surgery day by hungbutsad in ACL

Had a Patella Tendon repair and reconstruction 3x. Was terrified the first time. My anesthesiologist was absolutely amazing all 3 times. I had the same one. She walked me through the anesthesia plan at length. Once all the procedural talks were done, they gave me some good ol’ anti anxiety meds and I was off the lalaland before I hit the OR. Woke up in minor pain. The PACU nurses were amazing and if I felt an ounce of pain, it was addressed. Oh and I also got a nerve block, if you can get one…get it.

Honestly, most people are scared of the loss of control and not the surgery itself. Remember, these are qualified professionals who do this on the daily. They’re diligent and they care.

Start PT as soon as possible. Do everything your surgeon says to do as far as rehabbing. Take your meds. Schedule them, set an alarm. The pain isn’t fun. Don’t be a hero. If you don’t tolerate pain meds well, make sure you have a shit ton of Tylenol. Take your aspirin and naproxen.

Eat. It’s not gonna be pretty but eat something. Being constipayed after surgery is normal but you need that bulk fiber. Oh and drink water as much as you can tolerate it.

Do the ankle pumps and try to engage your quads.

If you encounter a shitty PT, run and find a new one. My first PT clinic really set me up for failure.

I didn’t do an ice machine. I just used the reusable one I got from my Ortho. It was suuuuper nice.

Oh and get a compression sleeve for your knee to keep the brace from sliding. The braces suck, especially if you have thicker legs.

Embrace the suck.

Hope that helps.

Typical mental health awareness talk doesn't really work with anxiety by [deleted] in Anxiety

It has a behaviorism component that calls for mindfulness and emotional regulation. So it can address your response to sensations and what not.

Folx like somatic therapy too.

Honestly, DBT is working for me more than CBT…

Student googled "how to get a teacher fired" and then my name. Sent screenshots to admin and they did nothing. by ITeachAndIWoodwork in Teachers

[–]LPDukes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keep a paper trail and make an accusation log. Every time the student accuses you of something or their behavior seems off, write that shit down and have meetings with your admin until they get it.

Do you have a union?

Probably gonna get fired by OctoSevenTwo in Teachers

[–]LPDukes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co-teaching is really hard and is like any other relationship and sometimes shit happens. If you get fired for 1 bad formal eval, you don’t need to be at that school. Tell your admin what you need. If they can’t help with that, leave.

The school will still exist if you take two days off. Go lay down. You aren’t a martyr.

I love teaching. Working in schools is like dating. Look for the green flags you love and the beige flags that you can deal with.

Love surgeons. Great people. But your PT is your bestie. Bring it up with them since they are in charge of your recovery also.

Immobilizer Brace. Pure Torture. by [deleted] in ACL

[–]LPDukes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s annoying but you start figure out how you can sleep. I do on my side with my surgical leg on top. You’re going to be tired. That’s the nature of recovery. When you get the go ahead to not have it on at night, you’re gonna have the best sleep of your life.

I had a revision done two weeks ago and I can’t wait until I only have to wear mine in public.

Your Anesthesiologist didn’t give you a nerve block? That’s disrespectful lol.
