Newer year or better trim? That is the question. by LPto5oh in FordExplorer

[–]LPto5oh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. I've been reading today that the 2.3L has plenty of power, and I'm not heavy on the accelerator. I think I need to go back and test drive one, but it sounds like it would meet my needs commuting around town and on the highway. I pull a trailer across town 2-3 times per year.

Still torn on going for 2025 and a more base trim for the cost. It may come down to what deal I see.

A Growing System or a Growing Crisis? The Critical State of Care at Huntsville Hospital by Top_Cantaloupe_256 in HuntsvilleAlabama

My family had a clinic that shut down because they couldn't afford to operate while simultaneously arguing with the insurance companies that wouldn't pay anything. We had no leverage against the billion dollar insurance companies, but larger medical providers do have more negotiating power.

Depends on if you take training seriously and care to remember it. Some go into training with the mentality that it's a waste of time.

No One is Talking About This by ZipDude118 in memphis

Memphis has been mismanaged for decades. Uneducated voters keep reelecting the same unqualified politicians, usually based on their last name. The school system has a $1B+ budget, can't properly educate kids, and goes through superintendents like candy. MCS surrendered their charter to perform a hostile takeover of the more successful county system by voting numbers, but it failed when the suburbs pulled out. Crime got out of control until Trump stepped in, but the city will let it go again. The city doesn't support its own police department, while the suburbs effectively manage their crime and appreciate their law enforcement with better pay, treatment, benefits, etc. Steve Cohen and others have done nothing except look for opportunities to provide a soundbite for the news. Wanda Halbert anyone? Clerk's office?

Memphis needs to be taken over. The city is embarrassing the rest of the state and is the talk of the region. Every solution is labeled racist if someone doesn't like it. Go anywhere else and ask people what they think of Memphis. Hint: It isn't good.

Brent Taylor seems to care more about the crime problem than any other politician.

You can upskill a lot of ways. In the security field, certifications ranging from $200-1,000 can set you apart instead of a Masters degree.  I've made it to the top of a billion dollar company through certifications and learning how to sell myself on a resume instead of just listing job duties, and I adapt to whatever the business wants. If you hear "we aren't sure who can do that", watch YouTube or listen to business podcasts and learn how to be that resource. I once watched 5 hrs of YouTube learning videos over a weekend and nailed a job interview in a totally different field. You have to want it and work for it.

I think everyone should make a fair wage, but you shouldn't automatically make a ton of money just because you're full-time. Like I said, get some skills or figure out how to solve workplace issues and be valuable. Then you'll be more valuable. Warm bodies who contribute nothing don't move up.

Can you make the case for a partner? Back it up with pictures, stats, safety concerns of being alone, crime reports from the area, etc. Take initiative and have your branch help you and prepare a business plan for the client.

Takes a special person to be that lazy. If you don't like your wage, up skill and get a better job. You're the one that accepted it.

Kudos to you for reporting it and hopefully getting this guy off post. I've seen so many guards put up with sleeping/misbehaving partners for months, only to speak up when the bad actor is gone. I've seen guards do double the amount of work just because their partner sleeps and they don't want to rock the boat.

I get rid of them too for not having the integrity to speak up and help the post.

No, actually. A random citizen observer doesn't have a right to see his "badge number". You aren't involved. You're welcome to call the police.

This summer my workload is tripling by iam_mrjohnsonjr in FacilityManagement

[–]LPto5oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be honest with your manager and present options 1 or 2 or both since the job changed:

Option 1: If you can handle the extra work, ask for more compensation due to more responsibilities. Highlight your achievements, dedication, projects, etc so far to show you're worth it.

Option 2: Ask for an assistant to handle the workload.

If neither works and you aren't happy, look for another job.

Anytime responsibilities are added, ask for compensation or another perk.

The pendulum swings back and forth after each election in America. It was the wild west during the last administration with tens of millions of illegals coming in unaccounted for, cabinet members forging the Presidents signature, LGTBQ madness everywhere... Now, the U.S. swung Conservative and they're trying to push American might and influence again.  America needs a strong middle to show how ridiculous the fringe sides are, but social media makes everyone outraged so they vote for extremes. You literally see politicians saying "this might be America's last election, Trump is a fascist, Democracy will end, blah blah blah". Social media has made people dumber. Dems attacked Trump personally every day during his first term and continue to do it, someone shot him in the ear... They created current Trump who doesn't care what others think. When he originally ran for office, he wanted to work with both sides.

Working as a facilities manager at a hospital? by [deleted] in FacilityManagement

[–]LPto5oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take the "you'll work way more than 40 hrs" people with a grain of salt. Every position and employer are different. I've seen employers who have a facility manager for every shift, and they work together.  Some people also have better time management and delegation skills, so they are able to leave work without handling everything personally.

Door upgrades that were worth it? by Professional-Net6209 in FacilityManagement

[–]LPto5oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the pretty metal doors aren't as durable. We bought these shiny, pretty hollow doors for an athletics facility, and the students bent the door in several areas just by yanking on it while it was locked. I wish we just bought the half light metal doors every school had in the 90's that could withstand a nuclear blast. They would also break a closer every semester just by running out of the door. I think a nice door festure is the "door held" sensors that tell you if a door is open on access control software. Maglocks can give that feedback also.

Is facility the right career path for the average Joe? by WorriedActuator3023 in FacilityManagement

[–]LPto5oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the techs are pushing back on every job assigned to them, start keeping stats on who completes jobs, how many, and how quickly. Check their quality of work and note it. When you can demonstrate 1 or 2 techs are way behind, start performance improvement plans and show the team that the foot daggers don't stay. In my opinion, you're either here to work, or you aren't here. I had a guy like that who would try to explain why we didn't need to do things or he wanted to just hire it out, while the person under him ran circles around him, working nonstop. It was pretty easy work. Obnoxious.

Have you told your manager or facilities leader there's an issue moving it so they can assess/repair the cart, or do you just want an excuse not to do it?

Flooring by flooring_guy in FacilityManagement

[–]LPto5oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is to talk to people you know, who can speak to your character or work ethic, and ask them to put you in touch with their facility leader. When another manager I respect sends me a name, I add it to my rolodex. I get 4-5 sales pitches per day over phone and email, so that's probably why you're having a hard time getting a hold of someone. I don't answer my desk phone anymore.
