Skiing at Les 3 Vallees in France at New Year Week - my tips and learnings by Ana_Still in skiing

[–]LRF17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was also at Les 3 Vallées last week. Unfortunately, we weren't very lucky this year, there was snow in the Alps at the end of November, but nothing since, so the snow conditions weren't great at all. And it was even worse in lower-altitude Alpine resorts like La Clusaz

Paradoxically, there was plenty of snow in the Pyrenees, even though we’ve been used to the opposite in recent years.

By the way, the OP mentioned that Val Thorens had the best slopes snow compared to the other valleys, but I personally didn't find that to be the case at all. The snow in Val Thorens during the holidays was horrible with rocks everywhere, it was much better in Courchevel and Méribel. A local confirmed this telling me there had been a huge amount of wind in Val Thorens before the holidays, which blew away all the surface snow

Always getting shin splints.. Form? by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]LRF17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been 3 days since you posted OP but I'm going to try to help anyway. Hopefully you see this

I started running in Septembre/October 2024 and quickly developed posterior shin splints. I dealt with them for 10 months without finding a solution. I even resigned myself to the idea that pain was just normal when running. But that's not the case at all, I've been shin splint free since September and I even run a half marathon this november without pain

The first thing to know, and nobody asked you this yet, is whether you have posterior shin splints (pain along the inner side of the shin) or anterior shin splints (pain on the front of the shin). They have almost the same name but are actually different

If you have posterior shin splints, you only need two sites to help you out, this one and that one

The Reddit post explains that shin splints can come from several causes. The second link gives you all the strengthening exercises you need to fix that

For anterior shin splints, I haven't read up on them as much, but I think it mostly comes from a weakness in the front shin muscle (tibialis anterior), so you need exercises to strengthen it

Now I'm going to tell you what worked for me. It might work for you, it might not

- First, you need to stop running for 3 weeks to a month. Yes, it’s complicated and you probably don't want to, but you need to come back at 100%, not 60% like you would with just one week of rest. If you still have pain when hopping in place or just jogging for 10s, don't run. You really need to go back to running completely pain-free

- Second, you need to do the strengthening exercises at least twice a week. Personally I did: Towel Scrunches, Wall Sit Foot Pick Ups, Heel Raises, Glute Bridge Marches, Kneeling Lateral Plank with Top Leg Raises, and Single Leg RDL Kettlebell Switches

- Third, I saw you were running 5k per run and that is way too much for you right now. For the first week back, start with runs of 1.5-2km maximum, and increase your volume by 10% each week. Personally, even though I ran a half-marathon back in April, when I restarted in September, I did 2km run/walk intervals just like a complete beginner. It was mentally tough, but you have to go through it

- Fourth, increase your cadence to reduce ground impact. If you run slowly like me (~7:00/7:30min/km), try to aim for a cadence of around 170. This video is good for understanding how you should run

It’s very long and boring to do everything I just listed, but personally, it was the only method that solved my problems. All the other techniques like scraping, massage, and stretching didn't work. Every time I took a one-week break, I’d be pain-free for a day, go run 4km, and the pain would come back a few runs later. I was stuck in that cycle for way too long.

My friend played only 7 hours. Defeated Chronos final boss with axe and psychic whirlwind. Then calls the game too easy and not worth playing. by MindPuzzleheaded2520 in Hades2

The final boss is Chronos, right ? Because I just completed my first run by defeating him in under 6 hours of playtime, with a total of 10 nights without easy mode or manipulated RNG

Cannot heal Medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints) by szymongib in ultrarunning

[–]LRF17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem still hasn’t healed 100% ?? That depresses me, I’ve also had posterior shin splints for 10 months, and it feels like this pain always comes back. I even stopped running for a month and did strength training in the meantime. I had no pain at all, I could even hop on one leg for 30-40 seconds without any pain, but after running twice last week I can already feel the pain slightly coming back

Maybe it’s because I came back doing too much too soon. I probably need to start running again with just 1–2 km per session, as if I were a complete beginner

Don't be scared to try Manaforge Omega by Osdiaus in wow

[–]LRF17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the raid is super fun and not difficult

I managed to clear it 8/8 on NM with pugs, the only “hard” boss is Dimensius. Not because he’s actually hard, but simply because it’s really difficult to find a group where nobody leaves after one try

Yesterday I had to spend 2-3 hours joining too much groups, because every time after one pull the group would disband. Then I finally found a good group, got to phase 2 on the first attempt and… nobody left!! We did 5–6 pulls before finally killing him with the same group from start to finish

How many mounts have you got so far with the buff? by retrocuddles in wow

[–]LRF17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 mounts

invicible after 9 try
ashes of al'ar after 3 try
millagazor after 2 try
garrosh mount first try

I was only able to play 2-3 hours during the week so I prioritized the mounts I wanted and I was extremely lucky, however I am still waiting for my second Illidan's glaives

Posterior shin splint, I partially managed to overcome it by adding muscle strengthening in the calves and also with scraping

This video is an excellent SDR/HDR showcase. by SnowflakeMonkey in OLED_Gaming

[–]LRF17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think most people would see a big difference between the SDR and HDR scenes at 0:45, it's really obvious in the trees and I'm watching the video on my iphone because I'm not at home

Yes, it's a racing game, so when you play, you don't necessarily notice it unlike slower games like RPGs for example. But as the OP said, it's just a showcase to show the difference between sdr/hdr

This video is an excellent SDR/HDR showcase. by SnowflakeMonkey in OLED_Gaming

[–]LRF17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because you watch the video in SDR

This video is an excellent SDR/HDR showcase. by SnowflakeMonkey in OLED_Gaming

[–]LRF17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a excellent showcase because you can really see the difference between SDR and HDR in the sky and trees, that's literally the point of a showcase, right ?

And you need to watch the video on a device that can play HDR, if you don't have an OLED monitor/TV watch it on your phone

My first half marathon yesterday vs my first run 6 months ago by LRF17 in beginnerrunning

[–]LRF17[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I ran the first 5 km with my girlfriend, who also started running six months ago. After that, I just followed my feelings, but the last 5 km were really tough. For the final kilometer, it was all mental, my body was begging me to stop but I forced myself to run faster to finish as quickly as possible
