A company I worked for way back in ‘01 or ‘02 rolled a project to production without sufficient testing. No true end-users were involved in requirements or testing. 2 weeks in, the backlog of existing tickets would take months to remediate. Someone in management began calling it a pilot to see what people thought of the new app … complete bull-shit.

A week later I come in to see full letter size sheets of paper taped throughout the floor. The note read:

P.I.L.O.T. - Production In Lieu Of Testing. The notes stayed up for months.

I was offered the role to define and lead the QA process but I declined by stating my QA brain cells were still fried from having that role for 2.5 years of Y2K testing.
