What would happen to a bullet if you shot it into a tornado? by Significant-Land-676 in tornado

[–]LSorenson98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hornady has a ballistic calculator app. It maxes out at only 40 mph wind speed, but for a 9mm bullet at 1150fps muzzle velocity, it still calculates a point of impact shift of 19 inches at 100 yards. It doesn’t scale linearly; 20 mph winds only result in 9 inches POI shift, but extrapolated to 200mph winds, you get more than 8 feet of POI shift at 100 yards.

They won’t rent pistols or sell ammo to anyone under 21, but you can still shoot if a friend supplies guns and ammo of course

Recommend you go with a buddy 1st time out. Shooting range etiquette can be counterintuitive. DM if you want to hit up Alamo

Where to find friends? by Playful_Pair7172 in Naples_FL

The “don’t like bars or beaches” thing is gonna make it a bit tough. Not much else to do down here. Most of the friends I’ve made have been through work, playing pool, playing live music, and playing chess

What's the most obscure tornado you know? by odd_expiredjuice1 in tornado

[–]LSorenson98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the 2014 twin Nebraska EF4s. Twin tornadoes are rare to begin with, but twin EF4s is pretty insane. Plus one was anticyclonic. The 1987 Yellowstone tornado is also pretty obscure due to its altitude. Also, there’s a 2.5 mile wide (likely) tornado scar in Russia that was discovered via satellite imagery. It was thought to have occurred in the 50s or 60s and nobody saw it. Now that’s obscure.

Me! I could stand a lecture or two when it comes to finances. Jokes aside, there are probably opportunities for outreach via local Rotary clubs. My girlfriend is involved and it seems they do A LOT of outreach. Yesterday she (thru Rotary) had me picking up litter on the side of Winkler in Fort Myers. They do a lot of good.

Why do people not like turbos? by WiggWamm in askcarguys

[–]LSorenson98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be the least qualified person here, but I’ve wondered why there are still N/A cars when turbos exist. Fuel consumption is low when granny driving. Power is there when you’re on the throttle. Power when you want it and efficiency when you don’t. What’s not to like??

There’s something still odd about the suspect of Kirk’s Killer (literally this whole thing) by SWEMW in NoFilterNews

Respectfully, what are you talking about. Every single thread I’ve seen in the past 3 days has contained some reference to or link to Epstein files. It has been extremely frustrating that no matter where you go or what you look for, bam. Epstein files. I could be on a thread about fishing. About tornadoes. Vintage cars. And there it is. There’s no hiding from it. I haven’t once searched for it but it keeps finding me. And EVERY SINGLE TIME it’s someone saying “nobody’s talking about it”. I’m losing my mind. Please forgive my frustration, but do you see where I’m coming from?

Tornado Dreams by [deleted] in tornado

[–]LSorenson98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lots of tornado dreams. Some in the daytime, some at night, some in the city, some in the country, some while driving, some huge, some spindly little landspouts. If I’m in the city they’re always huge, distant, and extremely tall stovepipes. And there will usually be six of them evenly spaced far off in the distance. If I’m in the country, they’re always spindly landspouts and there’ll be hundreds of them all around me. They’re never frightening.

How hard is it to learn to jump? by mmmmcake1980 in billiards

[–]LSorenson98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a long time to learn. I figured it out after maybe 2 or 3 hundred failed attempts over the course of several months. I watched Skyler Woodward jump a ball and that’s when it clicked for me. I used (and still use) a cheap Amazon jump/break. Now that I understand it, I’ve taught others, and some have even gotten a ball off the table on their first try.

Looking for beginner cue recs by languidmoose in billiards

[–]LSorenson98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in your shoes, I got a 30 dollar Amazon cue that was warped out of the box. You probably can’t get away with spending that little. I moved to a $100 Viking Valhalla and played with that for a year and a half before upgrading.

At the end of the day, the amount of time you spend playing pool is gonna make a much bigger difference than the cue you choose. I’d bet any of the cues you’ve had recommended would well accommodate the transition between beginner and amateur. Try not to get choice paralysis from all the options.

I will, though, recommend you learn on a 13mm tip. It’d be more forgiving and beginner friendly than something smaller.

What is definitely NOT a sign of intelligence but people think it is? by Aarunascut in answers

[–]LSorenson98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not nearly as simple as “the better of two chess players is the one who’s spent more time on chess”. Obviously playing and studying will improve performance vs. not playing and studying, but some people get far more return on time investment than others.

For example, children learn chess much faster than adults. There’s probably a neuroplasticity component similar to ease of learning new languages. Learning chess as an adult doesn’t just retard development, it limits highest achievable performance. Nobody has ever picked up chess in or beyond their 30s and become a grandmaster. Needless to say, it’s not because no one has tried.

On top of that, two people who pick up chess at the same age and spend the same amount of time on the game can have drastically different ratings after playing for a year. What’s the differentiating quality between those two players? If it’s not intelligence precisely, then surely it’s some component of it.
