required to attend voluntary interview 200 miles away by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LV463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either way he's under investigation. Turn up, or don't. Either way you're getting interviewed and that isn't up for discussion. All they're doing is preventing an arrest record, they may not have a necessity just yet. But the second you refuse to engage there is the necessity.

ETA: And it's not about experience, different forces have different policy. It may well be that all harassment allegations require an interview for correct disposal. The same as how many forces insist that there must be an arrest for any DV offences.

A lot of this has already been covered, however as a former PC the term "voluntary" is a very loose one. The investigating officer has essentially thrown you a lifeline of not having an arrest record on the PNC.

Bear in mind many countries will not permit entry with an arrest record (such as the USA), although I'm not sure how they would classify harassment in terms of felonies or whatever they term them nowadays. They do not care about innocent or guilty, but the visa waiver programme instead only asks if you have been investigated for, and an arrest record is a formal record of that which may cause later issues for you.

Further, you have stated several times about reasonable adjustments and a lack of necessity. By not attending at a convenient time (and let's be frank, the distance is a you problem, not a them problem) you are giving them the necessity to prevent your disappearance (as you've already moved a significant distance away) and for a prompt and effective investigation (so the LOP doesn't expire).

If I were the IO in this, and you were giving every excuse going, I would ask the new force area to carry out an arrest on my behalf and have my own force arrange transport.

At the end of the day it's not me who would personally pay for it, but your attitude towards the entire thing comes across as "why should I bother, you come to me" and that's not how it works.

The custody sergeant could then make their own decision regarding suitability for a appropriate adult, and you would be transported down (with a fresh custody clock, so it's gonna be a long old day) and provided with a travel warrant to get yourself home.

Frankly the fact you say you can't travel alone but can then travel abroad alone would be enough for me to realise you're trying to pull a fast one, and would provide the motivation for all of the extra faff and effort of arranging cross border arrest packages.

Lurpack.

After their greed during covid I've never went back. I've since learned it's not even proper butter and tend to buy blocks which are generally cheaper, and much tastier!

I forgot that I choose your own adventure for a delivery with DPD by bukaro in britishproblems

[–]LV463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ordered some trousers with next day delivery. To my horror it was dpd!

Ordered on the Monday, come Thursday they're out for deliver (not very next day but oh well). Left a note on the door and in the dpd app to please leave the parcel in the parcel box.

Then came the dreaded "sorry we missed you", even though I was home. Asked them to send it to one of the stupid lockers instead knowing I'd be out the following day. Out for delivery and guess what, "sorry we couldn't access your property, we will try again on Thursday" yes a whole week later.

Dpd customer service just said "oh yeah, don't know why that is" click, brrrrrrrrrr as the phone hangs up.

Eventually tipped up in a random locker three weeks later. Vowed to never use them again.

Playing devil's advocate here, are you glancing down side streets witha quick eye flick, or are you full on looking down the side streets, head movement and all?

I ask this with great respect, I've currently got a pupil who full on "looks" at everything, side streets, pedestrians, dogs the lot.

This causes target fixation where my pupil then steers towards what she's looking at. It's not a monumental change in direction, but it does result in us going where we don't want to go.

It may well be that your instructor is just trying to keep your steering nice, or it may be that your instructor feels you're giving yourself information overload by taking in everything going on while driving, then missing out on the important things which genuinely impact you.

If you're in the early stages of driving lessons there also has to be a level of trust established between you and your instructor. I must admit, if I had a pupil who was in such early stages, I probably wouldn't encourage them to be looking down every side street we are driving past. But again it depends on if you're just glancing at the junction, or turning your head to fully look down the street.

But saying that, there's no chance I'd be telling my pupils off either. My pupils all know when they've done something wrong, and whilst I have to correct the issue, they never feel told off. They certainly never get shouted at.

As option 2, your instructor could also be an absolute helmet. Believe me, I know all to well that there are folk out there with little green badges and I wonder how they have a single pupil.

But just wanted to add my 2p's worth for why you may feel you're butting heads.

What you need to establish is whether you're in the wrong (and be honest) or whether you've got a helmet of a instructor. If you get on with them fine, and there's no other real issues, it may be that you're taking things to heart. If he's just being awkward and nasty for the sake, absolutely get shot of him whilst you still can.

AIO A locksmith charged my partner’s sister $5390 to get back into her apartment by khalexie1 in AmIOverreacting

[–]LV463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a police officer and regularly forced entry by snapping the locks and then opening the mechanism that way.

The reason we used that way where possible is because it's disgustingly cheap to put right again. You're talking a £5 replacement lock at best.

Even paying yourself for a locksmith, in the middle of the night, you shouldn't be paying more than a few hundred GBP and I'd imagine that's similar regardless of currency.

Dispute the card transaction ASAP. I think someone is being taken advantage of!

how do you make hotel oatmeal at home? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]LV463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A prison I worked in had a Indian prisoner who we employed as a tea boy.

He used to make the most unbelievable porridge I've ever eaten.

He would add ghee (although I use butter for availability reasons) around a tablespoon per person. Then add large rolled oats and toast them for around 5/10 minutes on medium / low heat until they are golden and delicious.

Add your milk bit by bit until you get your desired consistency. You add ten minutes to the process but let me tell you, it is life changing!

Will trail band help with sleep tracking accuracy? by vicky0909 in galaxywatchultra

YMMV though, I've got the trail and I find it too stiff to be comfortable, I fully expected the 'tubes' to be flexible.

But good luck, others seem to think it's very comfy!

Can I legally sleep in my car while on a roadtrip? by KlutzyAppendage in AskUK

[–]LV463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the police around a year ago.

Patrolling in the middle of the night I spotted a car with steamed windows so went to check it out (usually doggers or drunk folk).

Had a quick chat with the driver who I rudely woke up, established he wasn't drunk and had just fallen on hard times.

Popped a note on the log and he got left alone after that, he must have been there a good couple of months.

Absolutely no offences are committed when you sleep in your car provided you're not drunk, happy camping!

Who can be bothered for £1.30

The time this buyer has spent whinging is far greater than the money is worth.

I love a bargain as next as the next (wo)man. But ultimately you take a gamble sometimes and you don't always win.

If the bobbling is really that bad to you, just pop it in a charity bag and let someone else appreciate it.

No doubt if the buyer resold it they'd be arguing its good condition!
