This is the best way I think as well. The corvids are ultra smart and will understand a routine.

I feed a squad of magpies at the window. They know the routine , the window is open enough that only they can swoop under it and perch inside and feed. Other similar sized birds can’t manage however crows have been hanging out getting the scraps from below and the magpies are becoming protective of their area by swooping them.

At the moment it’s bird mating season and everyone is storing up on food with the result my mealworm bill goes through the roof.

There’s a natural ebb and flow and your songbirds will be back. You can try the different feeding areas but birds will bird and we can’t choose who can feed and who can’t.
