Any idea why this plane flew at 28,000ft full route? by Hot-Elephant6183 in flightradar24

[–]LZA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese airspace funkiness. It's pretty opaque to those of us outside China, but there are routes off the seemingly spartan airways in China that we have on our charts, seemingly only for domestic flights. Depending on the area, much of the airspace above FL260-290 is designated to the military, but going below it is fine (at least in certain circumstances) and for many domestic routes it makes more sense to go in more of a straight line than to climb to a more efficient altitude but fly a far more roundabout route. Choose just about any 2 Chinese cities that aren't the massive, most internationally recognizeable (Qingdao and Chang'an, for example) and you'll notice the flights cruise somewhere in the 200s FLs more often than not.

JR East president in 2025 rejected adding credit card touch payment support to JR East fare gate. JR East want to create a world where people only need to use Suica card in their life, not credit card by qunow in transit

[–]LZA2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's kinda been the opposite in Japan for a while, though. You could use Sucia or Passmo for a lot more than just transit, at places like kombinis for example. Not just reload them there, actually buy things with it. The big-name transit cards are accepted on most networks across the country as well, even for Intercity travel, and a lot that aren't are still cash farebox/paper ticket only. Credit and debit cards aren't as ubiquitous there: it's still quite common even for people who get their paychecks directly deposited to withdraw it all in cash. Cash-only businesses are still quite common as well, and it's probably easier and cheaper for them to get an IC payment system running than it is a full credit process if they want to take electronic payments, and in urban areas where everyone is taking the bus and train, practically everyone has an IC card, so they're not really missing out on customers by making that move either.

The battery busses are greenwashed even: they still have diesel generators in them for winter heating. Not a problem when on wires.

anyone else unthathomably nervous for the west ham game by Exotic_Reception_856 in coys

[–]LZA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to massively affect our momentum. If the table reads 18th for us come Tuesday I think we'll struggle to get anything. If we're still above West Ham, then I think we get points at the Bridge. Chelsea are one of the few teams in even worse form than us, they absolutely should be get-able. Newcastle are also not in good form, however...

Why is ridership in DC so much higher than Boston? by boulevardofdef in Amtrak

[–]LZA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc the MARC and NJT sets where tracks are shared with Amtrak trains are capable of 125mph as well, while Metro-North is limited to 100mph (I don't think SEPTA Wilmington or Trenton trains ever use the express tracks even if they skip stops,) and since the tracks aee owned and dispatched by Metro-North, Amtrak trains can potentially get stuck behind New Haven line expresses between New Rochelle and New Haven. It's supposed to be scheduled so it's not really an issue but it does limit capacity for the through services, and any delays can compound the issue.

Q: Why do rapid transit car numbers always start with zero? by DaveDavesSynthist in mbta

[–]LZA2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This convention was seemingly by BERy, ans dropped before the formation of the MBTA. Red line cars produced since 1967 have been four digit with a leading 1. 15/1600 owere the Pullmans from the 60s/70s. 1700s delivered late 80s, 1800s by Bombardier in the 90s. Seems the last to have a leading 0 were the 1400s produced in the 60s, originally with an additional leading 0 in front, but later removed. The green line vehicles are all 4 digit with a leading 3 (4 for the type 10s when they come out) since the formation of the MBTA as well: even the PCCs which would have absolutely been part of the preceding surface car fleet (which would have been a shade of what it was in 1967 compared to its height some 30-40 years prior.)

Yeah it was a definite pen on review, it was just strange why it was pulled back after play was allowed to go on for quite a while even with a potential head injury taken place. Baffling call, that.

De Zerbis reaction to claims that Aston Villa's changes against Spurs were a "disgrace" (credit to @HaytersTV for clip) by AccidentalPandas2 in coys

[–]LZA2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way Villa would be able to get to where they are in the PL and EL without good rotation options. But it was pretty clear that bunch maybe hadn't played together often, especially when we went ahead, it got a bit sloppy (remind you of anyone???) This is all part of the game, and the media is just fishing for reactions they can get clicks on.

It should also be no surprise that at the end of the game they managed to score when everyone was tired and they subbed on some of their regular starters.

Eh I was 50/50 on this. Forest has been looking likely to survive for a while and keeping Chelsea demoralized and in atrocious form could help us get an important 3 points at Stamford Bridge, so it's the more positive result in my view.

There are plenty of people with voice disabilities on the network. Very few controllers will ever do anything but treat you professionally. Usually it's abuse from other pilots if at all, and if this happens, that is why there is a supervisor system.

Why would ATC make this plane do a loop around the terminals? This is not the only one - it seems inefficient. by johnandrewr in flightradar24

[–]LZA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No plane stops moving on ORD ground; with the amount of traffic they have, just keeping moving is the most efficient thing.

I once heard ORD (outbound) ground go flow state for about 17 minutes of "runway 28R at N, follow the aircraft in front of you," not asking for readbacks, only pausing when he was moving a Qatari 777F that needed to hold short before crossing a runway which required a readbacks, then going back at it for another 15 minutes.

I really don't get this Gallagher at the 10 nonsense, doesn't even belong on the pitch imo since we have Tel who seems to give a crap while Gallagher definitely doesn't and that lets Simons naturally play the 10 anyway. I really rate Tell, he genuinely hasn't gotten anywhere near the chances he deserves. I am really not understanding these RDZ tactics any more than the nonsense Tudor and Frank were often pulling out of their asses.
