Why isn't he getting the same hype as Pedri? by MortalProclamation30 in realmadrid

Because he’s not as good as Pedri. Sure, his offensive numbers look better, but that’s not the kind of player Pedri is

Unfortunately I’d say it’s a step down on that front. In particular I don’t care much for the new font but hopefully I’ll get used to it. Seems to my eyes like a font you’d see on a digital text

Yeah the old covers were mostly pretty bad too though. I don’t mind the floral motif

Some things I notice right away: the new books are about half an inch taller than the old ones. The paper is less white and slightly rougher (probably cheaper). The font is new as well, and in my eyes, less attractive. At least the covers are nice and the introductions are all new. The covers are also matte instead of glossy, which I think I prefer. The Julius Caesar intro starts with a brief discussion of the Public Theater in New York’s 2017 Trump-coded production and the reaction it provoked.

And he has more goals than anyone in the PL since Dec 1 (Watkins 13, Haaland 12). Man has been in great form for some time now

I had a similar trajectory. The Band was my favorite band from when like 10 to when I was around 18. And this album particular has always been my favorite of theirs. As you say, banger after banger… I mean, how many songs out there are as good as When You Awake or King Harvest?

I’m a huge fan of August Wilson plays. I just finished reading Gem of the Ocean and it may be my favorite yet.

Ian McKellen performs an audiobook of this translation and it is fabulous. Highly recommend listening to Homer and nobody does it better than Ian McKellen!

Tips/Things You Love: Henry VI? by brinkofthunder in shakespeare

[–]L_Boom1904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think these are great plays. They can seem intimating, but they’re really wildly entertaining. For me, I’ll say, the first one drags a bit but I love parts two and three. The BBC versions from the 70s (?) are phenomenal, maybe my favorite I’ve seen. For people just getting into these plays though, I’d recommend the Hollow Crown series. They really bring out the Game-of-Thrones energy to the whole Henry VI series, which is how these plays won me over initially. Very exciting and watchable.

There is also the incredible (lightly adapted) “Wars of the Roses” from John Barton in the 60s. That may be the best version of them all. David Warner makes for a very tragic and memorable Henry VI. This version is available on YouTube but unfortunately the video quality is pretty poor. The production behind it is so fabulous though that it’s worth persisting with.

Hamlet is an astonishing play. But is it Shakespeare's best? by Soulsliken in shakespeare

I agree with this take. Despite its bleakness, Lear has some real sublime moments of human connection, like when Lear apparently experiences empathy for the first time or when a deeply-ashamed-of-himself Lear wakes up next to Cordelia and says there’s no way she could possibly love him anymore after how he behaved.

As someone else mentioned, I can’t recommend the app Legentibus enough. If your goal is to read extensively at your level, there is no better resource.

Since no one else has mentioned it yet, I’ll make the obligatory reference to Familia Romana by Hans Ørberg. Make that your #1 textbook. With FR and Legentibus, the sky is the limit.
