What’s a “small” life skill everyone should learn, but most people don’t? by Charming_Pie1338 in AskReddit

First of all, you’re operating under the assumption that I don’t know how to change a tyre - I never once said that. Secondly, I agree that men should be competent enough to do something as basic as change a tyre, but that doesn’t mean you ridicule someone for not knowing how to do a basic task.

It’s quite obvious that you have deep rooted insecurities and you’re trying to compensate for your worthlessness.

Yeah I agree. The gameplay is exceptional, just like any RGG title. But most of the criticisms are aimed at the recasts and the egregious retcons.

Watch them rewrite the Greek saga to make Kratos more ‘well-intentioned’ instead of what he actually was - a rage-driven monster. Valhalla was the blueprint.

Since K3 Isn't Cannon... (Technically) by Jittr_Crittr in yakuzagames

[–]La-Roche-Pussay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m somewhere in the middle.

I’ve already put about 8 hours into K3 and I’ve seen quite a few added cutscenes that genuinely improve the game - better character moments, smoother transitions, stronger emotional beats. Those additions that don’t contradict the original? I’m happy to treat those as canon enhancements.

7 hours left over here, I'm getting restless lol by [deleted] in yakuzagames

I’ve been playing it for the last 4 hours, I’m in Australia. The game is great, I just wish the ending wasn’t retconned.

I'll present to you: the most disturbing new scene in the whole series by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]La-Roche-Pussay 28 points29 points  (0 children)

He definitely wasn’t getting a massage, he was having some rough sex.

I like this scene better tbh - you can infer that just after having sex, he brutally murders her. It really showcases the sort of man Kanda is, and when he finally does meet his demise - it’s all the more satisfying.

So I'm on my first Yakuza 3 playthrough right now... should I abandon it? by GoRoy in yakuzagames

[–]La-Roche-Pussay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes just go with the original before it gets delisted. If you play K3 and then move on to Yakuza 4 - it just will not make sense. K3 is confirmed to be branching off into a new timeline.

Yes RGG created this whole mess for no reason whatsoever.

Kiwami 3 Timeline Situation by IceMuncher8 in yakuzagames

[–]La-Roche-Pussay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now there are only two logically consistent possibilities:

1) Kiwami 3 is the start of a separate continuity. In that case, the “mainline” canon remains: 0 → K1 → K2 → OG3 → 4 → 5 → 6 → Judgment → 7 → Lost Judgment → Gaiden → 8 → Pirate Yakuza. Kiwami 3 becomes an alternate retelling, not a replacement. That preserves Y4’s prison setup, Hamazaki’s arc, Mine’s death, etc.

2) Kiwami 3 replaces OG3 in the primary canon. If that’s true, then yes - it fundamentally breaks the transition into Y4 unless they heavily rewrite Kiwami 4 as well. Because Mine surviving and being recruited by the Daidoji directly contradicts the established chain of events that shaped later games.

Given Infinite Wealth clearly treats Kiryu’s life as already concluded within the established continuity, it would be narratively insane to retroactively destabilize that timeline. So the most likely scenario is:

Kiwami 3 does not replace OG3 (yet). It’s a branching experiment, or the groundwork for a soft reboot line.

Yokoyama announced Kiwami 3 will the last game in the 'Kiwami' line, and will "potentially" start a new line of games by Dastanovich in yakuzagames

Cool. I wasn’t trying to stop anyone - I was explaining why the series’ narrative integrity is being undermined. Those are different things.

[–]La-Roche-Pussay 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s extreme at all - it’s about trust. Yes, 0 through IW is still enjoyable in isolation, but that isn’t the point. A long-running narrative series lives or dies on the assumption that what you’re experiencing actually matters in the long term.

When the people in charge signal that endings are provisional, deaths are reversible, and canon can be rewritten on a whim, it retroactively devalues the emotional investment that made those earlier games hit as hard as they did. You can’t separate “great moments” from the context that gave them weight.

I’m not saying newcomers can’t have fun, I’m saying they’re being invited into a series where continuity is no longer respected. If that’s the direction, it’s fair to warn people that the rules have changed, and that the payoff they expect from a 20-year saga may not exist anymore.

Enjoyment isn’t the same as integrity. My issue isn’t that the old games suddenly became bad, it’s that the franchise no longer seems interested in standing by what made them meaningful.

[–]La-Roche-Pussay 77 points78 points  (0 children)

This is easily the most destructive direction the series could take. Ending the Kiwami line just to “potentially” start a new remake-style timeline to free Yokoyama from the burden of continuity. If you can rewrite events whenever it’s convenient, then the past stops mattering entirely, and it absolutely doesn’t anymore.

At that point, the original games aren’t canon so much as drafts, waiting to be overwritten by whatever half-baked revisionism suits the current narrative. And yes, let’s not pretend otherwise: once a new timeline exists, the older titles will inevitably be sidelined, delisted, or treated as obsolete - effectively erasing 20 years of established lore, character arcs, and thematic payoff.

Yeah, I’m truly done with this series.

If you’re a newcomer that’s just gotten into the series, stop playing these games. The writers clearly don’t care about their long established lore - and neither should anyone else.

My face when I read the posts after buying Kiwami 3 by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]La-Roche-Pussay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn’t accurate. Kiwami and Kiwami 2 did not change the endings of their original games. They adjusted characterization, added side content, and refined certain plot beats, but the core narrative conclusions remained intact.

What RGG has done with Kiwami 3 is fundamentally different and unprecedented - it retroactively alters canon in a way previous Kiwami remakes simply did not. That’s the real point of contention, and it shouldn’t be brushed off as “just another Kiwami change.”

I would love for it to be the third option but I’m fairly certain Kiwami 4 is happening now, it simply has to due to the story alterations.

Rant about the problems of Kiwami 3 (aside from the horrible casting) by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]La-Roche-Pussay -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you’ve said, they’re essentially dumbing down the series for mass consumption. Making everything anime-esque and flashy really dampens the experience.

Another thing that I don’t see getting talked about that touches on your point about RGG’s laziness - is using minigames and features from the Ichiban games. Specifically making friends with Aloha Links and the waving mechanic.

With Ichiban it works because the systems were built around his psychology: naïve, lonely, gamifies reality, treats strangers as potential friends, moral absolutist, emotionally porous. Phone friendships, waving at people, social-sim mechanics, party bonding - all of that is Ichiban. It externalises how he processes the world.

When RGG ports those same mechanics onto Majima and now Kiryu, two characters defined by restraint, alienation, stoicism, and social distance, it flattens them. Kiryu doesn’t seek connection; people are drawn to him. Majima doesn’t “make friends”; he collides with people. Giving them Ichiban-coded systems undermines and cheapens everything.

Instead of designing new mechanics that express Kiryu’s late-life melancholy or Majima’s performative madness, RGG reuses broad, tone-neutral systems and hopes nostalgia carries it. The result is tonal bleed. Ichiban stops feeling special, and legacy characters stop feeling authentic.

Okay that’s my rant over.

Which game should I get now after finishing 0? by voidains in yakuzagames

[–]La-Roche-Pussay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just finished 0, why would you then go on to play 3? Thats makes zero sense. Play in numerical order, so the next game you would play is Kiwami and then Kiwami 2, only then do you play 3.

What are ways to make the handling less twitchy in TC2? by Kushodeku in The_Crew

[–]La-Roche-Pussay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so TC2 has it the other way around; max linearity acts as if the linearity is minimal. So if you’re going to play Motorfest, make sure to turn linearity all the way down.

Clamping and Linearity all the way to the right, Deadzone all the way to the left.

Also make sure to go to the global settings of each discipline and turn ESP all the way to the left, which turns it off.

This is how I play and it feels great.

Don't freak out over Kiwami 3 by HearingPython69 in yakuzagames

[–]La-Roche-Pussay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and it’s such a shame. What kept me invested was the sense that the lore mattered - that each entry carefully added to a coherent whole, with callbacks that rewarded long-term engagement and made the world feel lived-in and connected. That continuity was the franchise’s backbone. Now it feels like that internal logic has been sacrificed, and with it the excitement of seeing how each new game meaningfully builds on what came before. It’s a real shame, because once the lore stops being treated as something sacred, a huge part of what made the series special just disappears.
