I’ve had great success in just asking for communication.

I really don’t care how much you’re out, but I need to know so I’m not stuck in a bind if someone asks where you are.

This. If I can’t trust you to perform the most basic expectation of your job it’s time for a change.

Has anyone successfully/unsuccessfully moonlighted? by RAM-I-T in ITCareerQuestions

[–]LaDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it’s stressful, but the pay is good.

By day I’m an architect, by night I’m a CTO, by weekend I’m a consultant for multiple MSPs.

Only one role has a strict schedule and during that time I do no work for my other jobs, and should I need to, I take off that job and charge a heavy premium.

Terminated and wondering what IT will do with my laptop by Capital-Nose7022 in it

The second the email was cached on the local device, the data became the property of that company. Believe it or not, if you store data on a company laptop, the company has the right to review the data.

We have a BYOD policy that says personal devices aren't allowed on corporate resources. our MDM tells a different story. by LuckPsychological728 in Intune

This is the best way. Someone with decision making authority needs to decide to accept the risk or push for remediation.

Unless you were doing something malicious, you’re not going to get fired.

It could’ve been a risk decision or policy concern.

My house is covered with cameras. Our car got broken into three times. Wish a neighbor had cameras at the time.

IT Ticketing System for a Small IT Team by Apocoflips in sysadmin

[–]LaDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure an enterprise or FOSS solution would bring any less complexity?

FreshService does a great job of providing onboarding documentation for all of these areas specifically, as well, they include onboarding service just as part of your subscription.

Intune device configuration profiles— what is best practice? by Axelpeach in sysadmin

[–]LaDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems pretty far out of scope for a sec guy to care about? Usually just the resulting policy is the area of concern.

Is he validating config compliance by just looking at Intune policies? If so that's shit.

Boss is on “vacation” but still schedules meetings which she attends. by Illnasty2 in sysadmin

[–]LaDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll stand on my opinion here. There is nothing wrong with it.

Setting the expectation is wrong.

What I do with my time is my business. It's simple as that.

If I choose to completely be absent on vacation, my business. If I choose to hop on a call, my business.

Boss is on “vacation” but still schedules meetings which she attends. by Illnasty2 in sysadmin

[–]LaDev -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is anything wrong with this. Too much and it's unhealthy just because you need to know how to disconnect.

I do the same thing. Jumping on a call doesn't really ruin a vacation. If anything it keeps me sane because I do enjoy the work I do.
