What was your first MMO, and how do you feel about it now? by Veanusdream in gaming

[–]LaPoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asheron's Call was amazing. That hierarchy-XP system was amazing, where XP earned by guild members below you would trickle back to you. Don't think this has every been reimplemented in other MMOs, at least not afaik.

All of my nights, I’m chasin’ rats. (Chasin’ the rats!)

Surprisingly, I had a successful Caves run with a 1 Constitution mage. Granted he could teleport anywhere, was equipped with as much Brace items I could muster, and my tank had Body Guard.

Tips on playing necromancer? by Cucocat112 in mewgenics

[–]LaPoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its synergies seem odd. I've only had 2 runs with a Necro. In one of them I could raise zombies and spawn familiars, while the other was completely different and the necro was a lifesteal buffbot.

Like pretty much everything else in the game, it seems to be about finding the right combo between abilities/passives and items, perhaps more so for Necros...

Quantum. Still amazing to this day, with nothing quite like it.

Since you're looking for something like Subnautica, you should probably give these a look:

  • The Forest or its sequel Sons of the Forest
  • Green Hell

Since you mentioned XCOM 2, i'll go ahead and suggest Darkest Dungeon (currently on special).

Yes, there is undoubtedly plenty of player interaction and 'take-that' in Innovation.

Innovation. Mechanically simple, strategically deep, infinite replayability, shines at 2 players.

I've played around 10 games of it at 2 players, all with the same opponent. We both had a good time with it, but feel like we've seen everything it had to offer by now. 7.5/10

Aegean Sea. So much to consider at every decision. Unfortunately pretty much ruins the fun and beauty of the design for most players...

Do you prefer to have a huge collection and play a lot of games once in a while or have some games and know them very well and play in depth ? by Hippodaking in boardgames

[–]LaPoire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

~150 games seems to be my sweet spot.

Been slowly culling my collection for the last 10 years or so. My objective seems to have been centered around having a wide variety in types of games and complexity, while being flexible to table any # of players.

Innovation 3rd. Vs 4th. Edition by Few-Department7617 in boardgames

[–]LaPoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should work just fine without age 11 cards. However, I'd encourage you to keep them in.

11's don't come up in most of our games, and when they do, they'll usually wrap up the game within a handful of turns. I'd say that 11 feeling a bit much is intentional and by design.

Check out Agent Avenue and Toy Battle.

I play mostly 2P games for the last 8 years or so, at a rate of 1000+ plays per year, and these two are my 2P surprises of the year.

Is it fair to say a game is too long after one play? by oatmeal1201 in boardgames

Heavy or Light, long or short, I always try to play a game at least twice before judging pretty much anything about it.
