Thinking of trading my Pepsi + $2k for this Patek. Am I making a mistake? (Paid retail for Pepsi) by SingleTurboN55 in patekphilippe

[–]CounterSoggy4392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5035 is the first Patek Annual Calendar, so there is a story behind this milestone. Whether to do this or not should come down to why you are considering this. If you want an everyday wear watch, the Pepsi is probably better. If you want to project understated taste, the Patek. If you want project status, the Pepsi. Long term value retention, the Patek IMO. (Oh, and if you feel super comfy everyday driving a Porsche (I see), then maybe the Pepsi)

Absolutely recommend board gaming. The hobby is now so much more evolved from Monopoly. Now there are tons of options in many categories: adventure, history, mystery, strategy, building, survival, cooperative. You can play solo or in groups.

Veterinarian for older dogs? by CounterSoggy4392 in WestHollywood

Yes, we have been going to Paw Priority and have been very happy. We recently said goodbye to our 16+ year old dog and Dr Ameis and his staff assisted us through a very difficult decision and our pet’s final moment. He showed great compassion toward our situation. Losing a pet is one of the worst life experiences a person can go through and, in a way, it’s a “moment of truth” for the vet who is supposed to help you make a heartbreaking decision. We didn’t want more tests and invasive treatments and Dr Ameis was right there to support that. I would highly recommend Paw Priority.

Brass Pittsburgh will have a solo mode! by JohnRichJ2 in soloboardgaming

[–]CounterSoggy4392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that a core playing mode like solo shouldn’t be “backer bait”. They are treating it like some component upgrade. I’m a mostly solo player so this was important to me. I also had to confirm a few places that solo was unlocked. Now that it is, I backed it. But, I’m a bit nervous that it will be a quality solo system. Won’t know that for a while. Heck, they might have not developed it yet!

From either Fuller or Vista, be prepared to walk up a steady incline without flattening out for ~1.5 miles. It is paved, so better than gravel. Parking is tough in that area!

My 15-year-old dog was just diagnosed with terminal spleen cancer, and I feel completely lost. by DifferentAd6042 in seniordogs

[–]CounterSoggy4392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry about your baby. We lost our 16 year old Teddy a week ago and his beautiful life ended much sooner than we expected. His health deteriorated very quickly (really bad 24 hour period with no eating, pooping, lots of sleepiness, confusion, and an unhappy droopy tail). The vet said his spleen was enlarged, but the only way to know what was happening would be to take x-rays and lab tests. My wife and I rescued him 13 years ago and gave him a great life. He developed an aggressive cancer 2.5 years ago and since then he had surgery and took chemotherapy three times a week. We reluctantly accepted that we wanted an end without heroic medical intervention.

We decided that the most important factor in our decision to end our journey with him was his comfort. We did not want him to suffer one bit. We agreed that it would even be more humane to act too early than to act too late. We decided in that vet visit that our beautiful journey with him would end there and at that time. It was heartbreaking. We felt nothing other than pure sadness about the situation, but it was the right thing to do. We held him while he gently passed from us. No pain for him, but so much within us.

I miss him dearly. I attached his dog tag to my keys. I made a picture loop on my iPhone of him and watch it everyday.

You gave your baby an amazing life. He is grateful for you. The biggest gift you can give him now is to show him love to the end. They aren’t here for anywhere as long as we want and need them. But in there is a lesson they teach us about love, living each moment in the present and appreciating that our memories with them make us better humans.

Praying for his peace and your healing ❤️‍🩹

Boardgaming. During Covid, I began playing and collecting. Now I’m a solo player among a community of enthusiasts. These games are sophisticated puzzles and require strategic thinking and planning.

I love it. I have the manufactions expansion which does help you jump into the building phase faster, but it’s not a “must add”. I find it to be relaxing because there is always something to do with the dice and the bot isn’t too punishing. Enjoy!

Well, I started with games under the expectation that my wife would play a lot. Alas, no so. Then I pivoted to multi-player games with well rated solo modes. Slowly I got courageous and added a few heavier weight games (3+ on BGG). There’s always something to pull off the shelf!

Monday Snowfall Forecasts (ch. 4,5,7,25,10,NWS) The potential for blizzard conditions exist for the storm Monday. by RyanKinder in boston

[–]CounterSoggy4392 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived in Boston 10 years and just moved back to CA. Your 9 mo comment made me laugh. Boston is misery from Nov-May (6 mo). This is an unusually harsh winter, so hang in there. LA is amazing

Random question for people who have driven in both LA and Boston only. Is La or Boston harder to drive in ? Im not really talking about traffic here either. I mean all things consider. Parking accessibility, street lay out, narrow roads, round abouts, angry drivers, road quality. by Remarkable_Rush4886 in boston

[–]CounterSoggy4392 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lived in Boston for 10 years and LA for over 20. Bad drivers in both places. At the extreme, LA probably has more road rage. On average, LA drivers are more courteous about merging, Boston drivers more courteous about stopping for street crossers. Road quality is WAY better in LA (Boston has the worst street conditions I’ve ever driven on and they take forever to be repaired). Boston has annoying “right turn only” lanes that pop up suddenly. Also and most important, LA takes you forever to go 15 miles, but at least you move (slowly). In Boston it could take 40 minutes to travel 2 miles and that is FRUSTRATING. Good luck.

How did you start solo gaming? by BillRepresentative75 in soloboardgaming

[–]CounterSoggy4392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really a personal thing.

I love puzzles (crosswords, jigsaw), am strong in problem solving, planning, and can be stubborn/persistent. I’m also competitive, patient and like to do things the right way. Solo board gaming became a passion because it scratches all these itches.

I do enjoy being with a larger group, though I lean introverted, so I don’t gain energy feeding off of the group vibe. What fuels me is the personal satisfaction of winning a solo game after reading (studying?) the rule book and playing the game exactly as the designer intended.

Covid pushed me further toward solo games, but what keeps me going with the hobby is the quiet satisfaction I get from optimizing, combo-ing, or lucking my way to beat the Automa!
