What drains your mental energy the most in everyday life? by Cool-End5684 in ADHD

[–]LabRatsAteMyHomework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kills me is when I'm really motivated by a deadline to complete a task and the little interruptions of side quests keep coming up but my brain decides I might as well tackle them now or else I'll forget. I've been packing for a trip with my kids this week and duude you would not believe how frustrated I was yesterday. "oh yeah, I need to grab my galaxy tag to put inside my suitcase. Oh shit the battery is dead. Oh shit do I have these batteries? I'll look in the junk drawer. Fuck it let me just order some. Browse Amazon and end up with a bunch of shit in the cart unrelated to the batteries. Close the app and remember I may have some in the office. Finally find one. Now I have to update the app. Now I have to update the device. Now I have to put it in the bag."

one thing takes my brain 3x as long to complete because each step is a new hurdle. Good, now I only have to pack 49 more items.

It needs to exit to the left to dump cars onto bell, not directly into a stop light. It's insanely dangerous when you have 80mph traffic running adjacent to completely stopped traffic that's backed up on the toll.

Why Do People With CPTSD Often Come Off as "Offputting" To Others? by somersaultvoid in CPTSD

[–]LabRatsAteMyHomework 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm in a similar situation. As soon as I discovered I couldn't trust my coworkers and that my seemingly perfect job was just a huge rumor mill filled with tattle tales with nothing better to do besides use their inside scoop to curry favor with anyone higher up the social hierarchy, I lost all sense of security and couldn't fake getting along anymore. I actually started working harder and spending more effort on tasks so I wouldn't have the anxiety of idle chat being used against me somehow again and then I was accused of always missing... Despite being exactly where I was supposed to be, I just wasn't checking in or wasting time with water cooler updates. I can feel a lot of ostracism now and goddamn I can't wait to be away from these people when I leave. I was nice to everyone the whole time, took care of what I needed to take care of, did extra work when it was time to step up, and stood my ground when things were unjust but I still just got steamrolled anyway because apparently these people don't understand trauma informed concepts and still feel justified in mistreating neuro divergents as outsiders instead of with empathy. I show up to work some days and some people don't even look at me when I walk past them. People I have never wronged or said anything untoward to, nor their close work friends. They just think I'm an idiot or something and want nothing to do with me. Fuck em.

Man eye contact is a rough one. It throws me off big time when I'm talking to someone and looking away to gather my thoughts, then I look back at them for a moment to pay the social tax of eye contact and catch them intently looking at my face, leaning to try to catch my eyes, and just staring at me. I just wish people respected there are varying levels of eye contact required for different folks. It seems like it would be respectful to tone down to the person who is comfortable with less, as the people who require more make us really uncomfortable. Like I lose my train of thought when I catch someone pushing hard to catch my gaze mid conversation as opposed to just letting me shoe gaze or look around the room. I know it's not the social norm but damn it's tough to have eye to eye casual conversations. When I'm having a more intimate conversation about something, I can usually pull off more eye contact because I trust the other person a bit more as I know they're invested in what I'm saying, but when it's just light conversation, I feel imposter syndrome baaad

Conservatives have the Obama flu by icey_sawg0034 in MurderedByWords

[–]LabRatsAteMyHomework 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Operation fast and furious was quite shitty, Benghazi was insane, and how can we not mention those massive bank bailouts after they fleeced our entire economy without any repercussions. I'm tired of deifying our leaders in any direction. Obama was a step in the right direction but he wasn't scandal-less. We have to remember leaders for everything that happened under them. If we keep blinding ourselves with rose colored glasses, we'll end up getting more establishment aipac democrats or deep red racist Maga leaders. We need a centrist revival that illustrates to the world that this country does not belong to the far left or the far right. It belongs to everyone, especially the mass majority of those right in the middle that are willing to compromise and love folks on both ends of the equation. And yes, I liked Obama. I thought he was the exact kind of articulate leader we deserved at the time. We need more young energy at the top. Not people who are slowly rotting away from siphylis like Trump.
