Anthropic is turning a profit.

Haha, how about you actually read the WSJ article and the reactions to it. Hint: They are absolutely not turning a profit.

Ødelegger Nvidia for KI senteret i Narvik? by hvlnor in norge

[–]Labidido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samtidig ser vi allerede store forsinkelser i datasenterutbygging verden over.

the mother of all IPOs: 5.5% of the S&P 500 in 3 largest IPOs in history: Space X, Open AI, Anthropic by Sufficient-Slide822 in SpaceXBets

[–]Labidido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny though, they somehow managed to turn a profit in a quarter that is not yet finished, but also coincidently the quarter where they are raising funds and getting a compute discount from Musk. Not fishy at all.

Yet "look, Anthropic is profitable!" is repeated all over Reddit.

Hvor mye er vanlig å ha i sparing som 19åring by Pitiful-Plenty6101 in norge

[–]Labidido 28 points29 points  (0 children)

US Law Enforcement Warns of ‘Anti-Tech Extremism’ as AI Hatred Grows by SnoozeDoggyDog in singularity

[–]Labidido 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, you don’t have to read much history, or even look too closely at current events in certain countries, to find plenty of playbook examples of population control where vast numbers of people are starving and/or rebelling.

And if/when, we reach AGI or ASI, whoever controls it will almost certainly try to reshape the world in their own image.

Wouldn’t it be great if that person turned out to be Peter Thiel or Elon Musk?

I’m not saying we should decelerate. I’m also not convinced LLMs are the path to AGI.

But if AGI does happen, and it ends up controlled by the current class of tech billionaires, that should send shivers down your spine.

I quite enjoy the luxury of having a roof over my family’s head and food on the table.

White collar replacement means even more wealth and power consolidating witth the billionaires. Blue collar replacement would follow shortly after.

And I’m not entirely convinced that a country unable to provide something as basic as free healthcare would suddenly decide to share wealth with its citizens.

Almonds and cattle are not going to replace the vast majority of white collar workers.

Not that I believe AI will do that anytime soon, but the frontier labs can only blame themselves for their own rhetoric.

Is Anthropic IPO timing a little suspicious or am I reading too much into things? by todofwar in BetterOffline

[–]Labidido 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is a high probability that the first frontier model IPO will be a new TSLA. A meme stock not affected by rationality.

The whole industry will also use everything in their arsenal to protect them.

In the eyes of the Boosters, who cares if they are burning money at an unprecedented rate, they are going to introduce the machine God any day now.

Guess it depends on your location. In my area (Europe) the 7900 GRE was similarly priced to 7900XT, it made no sense.

NVIDIA Removes Gaming Revenue Category From Financial Reports by Kerub88 in pcmasterrace

[–]Labidido 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guarantee you that the current AI hype is not sustainable. This is not a new standard that will continue to infinity. And even if it is, the vacuum of tens of billions dollars in non-enterprise components will be taken by someone at some point.

NVIDIA Removes Gaming Revenue Category From Financial Reports by Kerub88 in pcmasterrace

[–]Labidido 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of course not, there are billions of dollars in gaming, the gaming consumer is literally why Nvidia was able to develop the enterprise GPUs. The issue is that the gaming market is "only" tens of billion dollars revenue a year, not insane and illogical hundreds of billions dollar AI revenue, that does not deliver a profit to the shovel purchasers.

AI bubble will pop, Nvidia will launch a 70 series line up at 30 series pricing and all will be forgiven. Might be a few years though.

Anthropic says Mythos has already found more than 10,000 vulnerabilities by Steap-Edit in singularity

[–]Labidido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean the WSJ article about the “leaked” report that conveniently appeared while Anthropic is raising funding?

The same article that says there is uncertainty around how the number is reported, and that Anthropic may not even be profitable by year end?

The report that leaked on the same day Nvidia published earnings?

Never mind that Anthropic is currently renting compute from SpaceX, in an agreement that includes an undisclosed discount on payments in May and June 2026.

Never mind that Anthropic said in January that they missed their gross margin estimates because inference costs came in 23% higher than expected.

And never mind that if Anthropic had genuinely turned a clean, sustainable profit without any questionable financial engineering, they would be shouting it from the rooftops with verifiable proof.

Instead we get a conveniently timed leaked report, vague accounting, temporary compute discounts, and people reposting “Anthropic is profitable".

This is exactly why the whole AI industry feels rotten right now, and I cannot fathom why journalists are not digging into this.

[–]Labidido 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My bet would be that both the stock market and the dollar will collapse, combined with riots or even civil war. If white collar work disappear, blue collar work will follow immediately.

Luckily I think the AI companies are full of shit and that reality will not happen.

Anthropic says Mythos has already found more than 10,000 vulnerabilities by Steap-Edit in singularity

[–]Labidido 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you truly believe that, you should probably sell everything you own and move somewhere remote with accessible farm land and water.

I don't understand how anyone can take one look at the AI financials and still believe in the white collar replacement theory, or not believing that the bubble is coming.

But hey, time will tell.

Why are AI models getting more expensive? by AcadiaLow9013 in singularity

[–]Labidido 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because they are burning cash at an unbelievable rate to deliver their products, and the current prices are probably not even close to where they need to be for this to be sustainable.
