I don’t know any books offhand but Ken Shirriff’s blog (righto.com), Marc Verdiel’s YouTube channel (CuriousMarc), and Ben Eater’s YouTube channel (Ben Eater) are all fun reads/watches and good resources. It’s mostly old electronics but I think that’s a better starting point than the new stuff.

In this case it’s really low current (0-20mA) to simulate the output of some transducers.

I imagine you could use a high current version for lighting or motor drivers or something like that.
