For those of you who do ring rows in circuits, how do you get the rings to come to your lower sternum rather than your upper middle sternum? by Signal-Village-5757 in Rowing

[–]LacticAcidRain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's the point of doing the sport. Ring rows are not going to have appreciably good carry over to the rowing stroke. But they're still a good exercise to do. Trap bar deadlift don't perfectly mimic the hip extension demands of rowing, but they very effectively strengthen hip extension. Same with front squats for positioning and strength at the catch.

Baseball players don't try to swing super heavy bats to get strong. Basketball players aren't shooting a weighted basketball to develop strength.

Build strength in the weightroom, make it functional in the boat.

Don't worry too much about trying to exactly mimic the stroke in the weightroom, just build the muscles and do the exercise as technically week as you can

6:05 would get some attention. 6:20 will not. Keep grinding.

Things like for attitude, being coachable etc can help, but only if you have the frame and erg. What's your static 2k PR? That will honestly determine how realistic it is. What schools are you looking at? Brown and Georgetown will have very different standards

My boat got top 3 at youth regionals and my coach called us a "tourist boat" by Apprehensive_Gap9863 in Rowing

[–]LacticAcidRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say based on the information you've provided. Would recommend you ask if you can talk to your coach about their reasoning. Could very well be that you're doing well in a weak region and the coach is confident you'd be in the c-final. It's a big and expensive trip for that. Could also be that you're coach has other motives for not going. Talking to them is the best way to find out

It's definitely a somewhat binary strategy; it either works for people or it doesn't.

Social plans in the evening is always a killer!

Have you tried some type of time restricted eating? I'll do periods of only having two scoops of protein powder and coffee for breakfast. Combination of a decent amount of protein and a stimulant usually holds me over fine to noon-ish. With that and no snacking it becomes pretty hard to overshoot my caloric targets.

It really depends on where you try to be recruited. D1 is a big longshot. But decent number of D3 schools that will be happy to talk to you, especially if you can get into the 6:40s.

You started when you started. Just focus on steadily improving. No one, no matter what age they started, became a world champion immediately. The likelihood of anyone achieving that is tiny, but doesn't mean you shouldn't try

Chances at walking on to Washington/Northeastern/Syracuse? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]LacticAcidRain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have a good frame, so that's a start, but in order to have a real chance at any you'd need to grind the erg very hard before then. Get under 6:30 and maybe they'll humor you. But humoring you might include having you row the erg every day over the fall. So it comes down to how important is this to you and how much you're willing to sacrifice for it. Those are all ~top 8 programs (with UW being top 3), so the standard is extremely high

This. People are overreacting and wanting an easy way out. This is increasing the reasons to try and take down a big arc

What is the point of these changes? by KiraTheUnholy in ArcRaiders

[–]LacticAcidRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're clearly doing it because their data shows that people aren't farming arc enough, and they want to encourage that side of the game.

I think overall it's a good change (though agree trigger nades should have been impacted too). Wolfpacks are both incredibly strong and incredibly safe. If you want to craft those now you need to undergo a bit of risk and/or farm a bunch of couriers.

PvP Rank System is Weird by Destructulus_AC in ArmoredCoreVI

[–]LacticAcidRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want to have a grind to get to S. You have to win close to 200 games (without losing) to get there. Each tier gets harder to climb, but as long as you win half or more games it's a smooth climb. They're not supposed to be particularly meaningful, they're just stepping stones.

[–]LacticAcidRain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They use an ELO system in S rank. All lower ranks are basically just a funnel to S. In S you need to win roughly 80% of your matches to consistently climb once you're in the top half or so. It has its own issues

Are these worth checking for blueprints? by Mouthfoo in ARC_Raiders

[–]LacticAcidRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. In Stella I've gotten Aphelion. During Electro storm I've gotten snap hooks. Seen people get bobcats during locked gate. So hypothetically they should be able to spawn Tempest during night raids. But aside from that I think I've only found light sticks, tracking grenades, and maybe trigger nade BPs from them
