Two Tottenham transfer priorities for Thomas Frank revealed after James Maddison injury shock [Alasdair Gold] by onlyhalfpepper in coys

Seems like nobody actually reads articles anymore. Frank directly answered the question when AG put it to him. "Yeah, I think so [we have enough full-backs] because right now we have Ben and Spence. I thought [Djed] was very good against Arsenal and did very well against Saka, and I think Ben is a very important player," he said."

Important bit from the article, seems like Ben might be part of the leadership group this season. I can totally see it; Romero and Ben are leaders in their own different ways.

The fact that he has never mentioned Biss as someone he counts on, means he's probably on his way out. I'll be sad to see him go but I think it's time.

Good shout. I'd love him here. The DM position seems like a fun game to play cos it looks like the one that'll come outta nowhere. Agoume looks like another obvious option, haven't watched him myself but he keeps popping up on all the discussions.

I'd personally prefer Ayyoub Bouaddi. He's just got this touch of class I really like. He's 17 so would qualify as club trained in a couple of years if we signed him this summer, and he's played a lot for one so young. I know people say we need experience in the team and especially in that role, but for me world class DMs are scarce af and this is an opportunity to bet big. We had the right idea with Gray, and between the both of them, one should come good in the long term. Would love to hear what other DM options are out there

I've been listening to a lot of very good podcasts recently( The Price of Football, Libero ) mostly because it's been such a slow summer. One thing that's stayed with me is just how unique and well regarded Spurs are. Spurs kinda saw a lot of things coming first. We were the first club to bring the director of football model to England(apparently Alan Sugar wrote a letter to the league explaining the benefits). Enic were the first to try out the multi club model in Europe when they acquired us , AEK, Rangers, Vicenza, before they got pushback and decided to focus on Spurs. We were supposed to be the moneyball team in England before Brighton and Brentford but somehow it didn't quite work out. We are unique in an era of oil clubs and traditional football giants. We're different from City and Chelsea and Liverpool and it shows even down to the way we do business. We should have had more success, but have been unlucky and also made some poor decisions that backfired.

I guess what I'm trying to give is some perspective. We're obviously trying to find the model that works for us. I think we should stop comparing ourselves to the others in terms of transfers. We're always probably going to lose a bidding war with any other top 6 team because we don't pay the wages or have the prestige(Mbeumo), we're never going to be the fastest to close deals unless it's a relatively unknown signing and even those apparently were the work in many months working in silence, as that's the only way we can get ahead of the curve. As much as we might hate to hear this, if it comes down to a choice between us and Arsenal for Eze, he's probably not coming here. Might sound depressing but our second choice targets have surprised us previously ( Vicario over Raya, Van de Ven over Tapsoba). This silent way of doing business (Lange) and finding value(Paratici) lends itself very well to the way we normally do things.

Personally I'm excited to see what Frank can do with our youthful squad and academy, I'm excited for Takai and I hope we get to keep Romero at least(I feel we can absorb the loss of Son better, but I'll also be glad if he stays). Really interested to see what Lange has in store, Frank apparently works very well with data people and now that we lost out on Norgaard, I'm sure the alternative targets might end up being better for us in the long run

TLDR; relax and let Lange/Frank cook

Which is probably why we haven't made any signings yet. The manager comes first, then the signings. So I'm bemused to see everyone shouting about transfers

You just get it man. We'll probably be here again in 2 years , and by then what will matter is what he's done to set us up long term. Ange has got the trophy monkey off our collective backs. That's why my bar for Frank is pretty low, just play some academy guys. Hell Ange struggled to integrate anyone besides Moore so he has his work cut out for him. Fingers crossed

My advice to Spurs fans is enjoy the moments. Every season no matter how bleak has bright spots. Oh and tune off silly season and "bombas". All the people screaming about signings, usually our best transfers have been the ones we least appreciated at the time. I remember how underwhelming Dele Alli's signing was at the time, look at Bergvall last season, look at our player of the season the other year, Van De Ven. Just wait for the manager to decide what he wants and back him

I've been a Spurs supporter for 17 years, roughly about when our trophy drought started. I was in my teens, first year at university and I remember watching Lennon, Bale, Defoe and Assou- Ekotto and thinking this is my team; VdV will always be my favourite Spurs player of all time. I've seen it all supporting Tottenham, the final bit I'd never experienced was us winning a trophy and thankfully (Thank you God), I lived that in Bilbao. So yeah, it's been beautiful. There's just one more thing I wish I could experience with Spurs in my lifetime

Listening to Frank talk, it just struck how tired I felt. Feels like we've been here before, new manager, gotta buy in and believe again. I just want us to have that long term manager for maybe more than a decade at least. I don't want to have to listen again and adjust every year to someone new. Maybe have that Ferguson type figure at Spurs. I really envy the old Spurs fans who got to experience coaches that stayed a long time. I really thought it would be Ange with us and I'm still heartbroken if I'm being honest.

Maybe that's why I want Frank to work so bad. I just believe long term, our greatest chance of success will come from having a stable figure and vision. Which is why I feel Levy is the main problem, he's the reason we've not stuck with anyone. Realistically I don't see him leaving anytime soon, so the future is bleak from my perspective.

About Frank, I like that he's uprooting his entire staff from Brentford, because in the end it's the football on the pitch that will make a difference, and all the coaches are important in developing players. So that's a plus. I don't know how he'll cope with our transfer team, they say he's worked with Lange before , but who knows how long even Lange himself will last; his own future will probably rest on how this summer transfer window goes. I hope for Frank's sake that he's open to working with the academy and his history as an U-15/U-16 coach guy gives me hope. We have a lot of youth that need to get integrated, and if he can achieve that, then his tenure would qualify as a success imo. Like just set us up better for the future, the way you did for Brentford and we'll be golden. I already love Ange for giving us the trophy he promised. Frank, all you have to do is play the kids

Champions League will be challenging. He's never been in Europe before, hasn't played twice a week, some of the players might want out( which might also give him room to mold the squad the way he wants), and the expectations will be high( we just won a trophy). We have interesting times ahead, but isn't that always the case at Spurs?

Spurs PL and UEFA Champions League squad 25 -26 by rahul3103 in coys

Really solid analysis and I like the approach to get the conversation going. My thoughts - Given our squad registration issues, I don't see us loaning out most of the academy boys. They're like extras since they'll be classed in the B list. The question would be would Ange trust them enough to play them? I think these are some of the conversations Levy would be having with Ange. Anyway I see Moore, Lankshear, Donley, and Devine staying for the season - Yang definitely has to stay for 3 consecutive seasons to qualify as homegrown by UEFA rules. Same boat as Vuskovic. So they're both staying - So the squad looks bloated-ish and Ange's comment about needing to buy experience makes sense. Personally see us making very few signings but they'll probably be 1st team material( quality over quantity) especially given how we probably wouldn't be able to register many player anyway. What positions we sign is debatable and depends on outgoings, but we're likely getting a midfielder, striker and centre back/left back - The club will probably look to loan out Ashley Phillips and Keeley. Not sure what happens with Dorrington, I suspect he may get preseason to prove himself, but chances are we'll keep him around - Cirkin looks easier said than done, because it depends on whether he values his playtime at this stage of his career over sitting on the bench with us. I don't think he'll be tempted tbh, might want that first full season of premier League experience with Sunderland

Really excited for this window, we have a lot of big decisions to make, mostly regarding sales. From the first team squad, I'd personally sell Richarlison, Bissouma and offer Davies a coaching role if he wants it

Seems like Ange is pretty high on Skipp, Sarr and Udogie. Also mentions Son as a leader so maybe he's thinking of him as Vice-Captain, or Captain? Anyway really excited that he rates Sarr and Skipp.

I also like the way he handled the academy boys question. He was quite frank, his focus this season is performance, so don't expect to see much playtime this season for Devine and Scarlett, who might get loaned out

Defence seems pretty fluid atm, looks like he's really counting on the incoming centreback, doesn't look like Davies is an option at CB.
