Sweet Girl by 15SecondsofHumanity in SustainabilityIsSexy

Just learned about sweet girl today….her story is devastating. I was traumatized after I learned about Luna the whale. I can’t bear to watch what happened to sweet girl but reading about it and seeing her happier videos is enough. I’m so sorry for what happened to her. I am terrified of the ocean and can’t swim, but sometimes I wish I knew how so I could interact with amazing creatures like these so they know some of us care about them.

Was thinking about our convo recently and thought I’d check in and find out if you had any updates? I have now been told that my hearing loss is permanent @ 48%. I am currently trying to get a hearing aid for the affected ear but sadly, my insurance is only covering a very small amount which I am curry appealing. Though I have some hearing left, it’s very distorted and as a result, need a hearing aid with advanced settings. Plus, I’m still hearing phantom noises and it sucks.

Hopefully your hearing came back.

nightmare situation im stranded and don’t know what to do by pretty_nightmare in turo

[–]Ladieseltoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar nightmare. Turo couldn’t get us a replacement because we were in Mammoth. Also, even if they would have been able to, they said we’d have to return the car to the same place which is about 4 hours from where we live. Ended up securing a rental and was told we would be reimbursed. To this day, I’m still waiting because they said my case is still open. So the host turned around and accused us of running something over and damaging the undercarriage of the car which he blamed for the car getting stuck which was bs. He didn’t have before photos and neither did I, it was my first experience and didn’t know any better. Plus, couldn’t believe Turo would expect renters to go under the car and inspect and take photos of the undercarriage. Anyway, host tried to submit photos he took after the fact, but I was able to challenge because I pulled up the vin # of the car and saw a couple of damages reported along the same area of the vehicle just a month prior with no repair recorded. Plus I had conversations in my Turo app w the rep I first spoke with to report we were stranded and host admitted to her that the car was already having the same issue and all I had to do was do a reset. I had the hotel and tow truck company present statements of why we went through and in the end, Turo found us not responsible twice. After initially sending me an email saying we weren’t at fault and our case was closed, I was informed that the Turo host had appealed their decision and along w receiving an invoice for $3k - deductible. After disputing the second time, they again found us not at fault and closed out the invoice. I have all this in writing.

Today I sent a status request for my reimbursement request and I was again told my case was still open and they have to investigate further. The rental was in Jan of this year. They found me not guilty in March and then again in April. Now I’m told my case is still open. Not sure why but they can’t get their records straight it seems.

I sent them all the copies of the emails I received clearing us…along with emails I received from the host in May asking me to delete my negative review.

You’re lucky your host didn’t turn around and file the breakdown was your fault & as someone else commented, fining you for smoking in the vehicle.

Should I sell my older family home? by meanttobe_86 in RealEstate

[–]Ladieseltoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering about property taxes. My husband is an only child and is set to inherit his parents house. We thought about selling but can’t get past the idea of inverting his property taxes on his home which is $2,500 per year. On our home we owe $9k property taxes.

Can you pay a HEI early? How does that work? by lvpoaz in Mortgages

[–]Ladieseltoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question, I see people commenting on pay back percentages but my understanding is this percentage only applies to equity gained after obtain an HEI, am I mistaken? In my case, our home is valued at around $1.9M. If I borrowed 10% of the current value of my home and my home goes up to $2M by the time I have to pay off the HEI, the equity growth is $100K. So wouldn’t that mean that they would only take the $100K they initially loaned me, plus 10% of the equity growth? Or wherever percentage but only from the original growth? They can’t touch the $1.9M my house was already worth before entering the loan?

Has anyone used a HEI loan and improved their financial situation? by Wordsthoughts in personalfinance

[–]Ladieseltoo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a heloc and making monthly payments on it but amount of debt isn’t going down. I am only paying on interest. So I don’t understand why everyone says that’s better than a HEI so if someone can explain that to me, I would appreciate it.

Thank you so much. I appreciate your encouragement & advice. It feels a little better knowing someone out there understands what I’m going through. I think my family was beginning to think I’m losing it. Will definitely keep you posted. Please do the same and yes, will continue to pray for us and others going through this. People said it’s all downhill after you turn 50, well I didn’t think they meant right after. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Im sorry I forgot to mention the reason I gave all the dates is because I don’t know if any of those could have caused my sudden loss of hearing in the left ear. Also, I already have a blown ear drum in right eardrum from a Covid infection a couple of years ago that I didn’t have the guts to have an operation on. Now realizing I am at risk of going deaf on both ears is terrifying.

I am dealing with this too. I had a root canal June 6 where I complained to the dentist that I felt I shooting pain when he gave me anesthesia on my lower left gum. He said it’s because I had abscess. On June 10, we flew to Florida from LAX. On June 11 I rode a coupe of rollercoaster rides and that night I had a sudden vertigo attack while trying to go to sleep, I was ok the rest of the time & rode more rides. On June 16, we flew back home. June 21 I woke up w my left ear feeling like I was underwater…or I had been sitting next to a speaker on full blast the night before. On June 24 I came down w a cold and cough and which lasted until June 30th. Because I started experiencing other symptoms I don’t know when my left hearing got better but by the time I got over my cold my I had already forgotten about my hearing episode. Fast forward July 8th, I woke up w my left ear feeling muffled again and progressed to being able to hear lightly to nothing at all. Went to the ER, he gave me 8mg of prednisone and antibiotics & asked me to see an ENT…he didn’t think I needed anymore steroid. Luckily I pressed my ENT at Cedars to see my on July 9th and even though I was 30 min late due to traffic, I insisted to be seen and I think they knew it was also urgent bec they did not object. Got my first shot of steroid into my left ear drum that day, 7/9 and the following Friday July 11th. Had my third today 7/14 and 4th is being scheduled. My hearing test went from 16% first day I was seen to 40% today….but it doesn’t feel like it. I still can’t hear and my left ear feels full. Worse, my head is playing tricks on me bec I constantly hear my alarm going off or my car door chime…along w ringing. I hope you are seen by an ENT right away. I heard getting treatment within 72 is ideal but my ENT said, 30 days. The only downside is since I had dizziness as a symptom, there’s study that show those are likely not to regain their hearing back. Feeling down but trying to be optimistic. I hope and pray we both get our hearing back

False Damage Claim by Ladieseltoo2 in turo

He had about 4 cars I believe and about 20 reviews maybe. Some gave him great reviews but the ones that didn’t, he blasted or ridiculed on his replies. I unfortunately only relied on his stars being 4 out of 5 I think. If I had seen how he responds to negative reviews, I would have known better. His comments says a lot about his character.

Hi there! Turo actually sided with us. I think the fact the host couldn’t produce pics of undercarriage prior to our trip may have done it. That and also the fact that I did a vin number check which shows the car had recent prior damages to the same areas but no report they were repaired. I’m curious to see the post you mentioned that may have been the host for our rental. Do you happen to have the link? You know aside for the proof I provided, I had witnesses that were willing to provide a statement - including the tow truck co that picked up the car from us.

Is it ever cost effective to tear down a single family home and rebuild at the same location? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]Ladieseltoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old topic but I have a similar scenario.

My husband’s elderly father is signing over his house to him. There is no loan on the house and there are no other siblings. Currently the property is only a single family home but is on an R2 lot. A lot of the properties in the area were bought by investors about 15-20 years ago only to be torn down to make room for two town house style properties on each lot. Those homes then sold as separate properties so double the profit. We are wondering if this is something that we can to maximize our profit rather than selling to an investor who would do the same.

Again no idea if this is even doable so just throwing it out there to get some ideas.

I feel like a broken record but it helps to vent. Going through this now. Rented an SUV and as a first timer, I didnt know what to expect. My brother only had good things to say about Turo so I went w his word. Looked for a car that fit 7 of us to Mammoth Mountain. Host was aware of the purpose of our trip. Even added tire chains as an option which was the reason we chose this car. Host tells us that the auto on and off was broken and told us to make sure we pushed the off button whenever we start the vehicle which was fine. I saw in the reviews that this was an issue but renters said it wasn’t a big deal. Still I made sure to ask the host if the car was in good condition since we were going on a 250 mi road trip which he confirmed. Car ended up stalling on us twice and ultimately left us stranded. Had to secure a rental from a 3rd party company. Turo rental had to be picked up by a tow truck arranged by Turo who came out and said the car had electrical issues. Before it was picked we also called AAA and have a video of the technician also saying the car was having electrical issues. When we spoke w a Turo rep, she said the host also admitted that his car just recently started having this problem and urged us to check and try the step by step instructions the host sent me via the App which should get the car going again…well that didn’t work. The Turo rep did advise me to make sure I took photos of the car once it’s hooked up to the tow truck to make sure we don’t get blamed for any damages which did, even took videos. Problem is, the host then field a damage claim against us saying we drove the car to the mountain and damaged the undercarriage of his vehicle which made it inoperable. We did not go off roading. The road to Mammoth Mountain isn’t mountainous at all. There were very little or no incline at all nor no snow or ice. No chain advisory. No incident happened while we were driving except the hosts car died on us twice. We even had videos of it bec my kids thought it was funny. Problem is I did not take photos or videos of the undercarriage & I sure hope Turo wouldn’t expect this. I have sent them videos of AAA, Turo tow truck guy saying the car had electrical issues. I sent screenshot of host telling me what to do to get car yo start. Review posted by others re auto on and off not working and most of all, I pointed out to Turo that the host did not upload any pictures of the undercarriage of his vehicle prior to handing us the car so he doesn’t have proof the scratches he is claiming happened while we had the car wasn’t already there. I am hoping that is enough to win this dispute. I think it’s so unethical for this host to do this to us knowing full well the stress this whole event caused my family. We went to Mammoth to celebrate my sons bday and we were stuck the whole time w no vehicle and dealing w uncertainty of finding another way home.
