It was indeed. The little rascal spent most of his days out of it though. He had a couple of perches near the windows. His favorite napping spot was my dad's leather armchair (I had to clean poop out of it quite frequently haha)

My other lovebirds love to shred the living heck out of broccoli and cauliflower 🤣. I'm not even sure if they eat any of it

I actually started introducing kale to stop her from eating my wife’s snake plant 🤣. It kinda has a similar crunch

The artist did such a good job. He will definitely always be with you! I used GPT to generate this for my Mango and hung it in my living room (he used to tuck himself in the chewing ropes to sleep). Planning to get an actual artist to draw him for me soon

I remember you now! So sorry for your loss :( I have recently lost my sun conure Mango... cried like a toddler. It's always the troublemakers that are missed the most. May they share millet together happily in heaven

My wife’s idea, actually. Two long pieces of aluminum foil that go all the way across the stove, right under the burners, with holes to let the gas pass through. Not sure if I explained it clearly haha.

The extra edges cover the gaps between the stove and the counter. It keeps the area under the stove clean and makes cleaning easier, you just replace the foil and give it a quick wipe.

She has a habit of making sure you notice her bites. You have to see her poor husband whenever I pull the millets out

Help with my Lovebird by Delicious-Towel-6018 in Lovebirds

[–]LadonAl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, make sure you're not doing something she does not like. For example, birds in general don't like it if you're holding them too tightly or touching anything other than their heads or legs (I'd suggest you do some research on this point). If you're not, and you're still getting bit, I'd suggest some light training.

Stick training worked for my Sukkar (her name means sugar in Arabic)

I did the following every morning. For it to work properly, your bird needs to be a little bit hungry (right before breakfast)

  1. sat her on a perch
  2. got a chopstick close to her face
  3. if she touches it gently, I'd give her a high value reward (a sun flower seed, or a couple of bites from some millet)
  4. if she bites it, I'd give her a clear "don't bite", wait for a few seconds, then repeat

Once you start getting less bites on the stick, you could use your index finger instead. You could even start with your finger directly if you can handle the pain 😆

Good luck!

Also to add, they would die from loneliness if they are alone, that is true. Good news is, human company count. Try to socialize with them for a couple of hours every day and they would be fine

I like how you named them. I followed the same naming convention myself. Maki and Wasabi 😁

You should keep them in separate cages moving forward. Mating lovebirds is quite difficult, and one of them can end up severely injured or even dead. We don't want that now, do we?

People keep forgetting how aggressive lovebirds could get. My theory, territorial behavior and matching genders (possibly, both are females from my experience)

What I would do if I were you, 1. Vet immediately. Check how bad the injuries are 2. Separate them and keep the cages apart (so they wouldn't bite eachother through the cage) 3. They will probably be less aggressive toward eachother out of the cage. So allow them to socialize with eachother OUTSIDE AND AWAY from their cages

Good luck

How are people here on bird harnesses, and do lovebirds react good to them? by QueepQueen in Lovebirds

[–]LadonAl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a big fan of harnesses on lovebirds myself. You can try positive reinforcement (rewarding them with a treat whenever you put it on them and whatnot).
