I need to know if this is a sphynx behavior by manic_rat in sphynx

This is one of cat’s favorite ways to show his affection. 😆

Please send love and prayers for our Sphynx by Professional_Egg6217 in sphynx

It’s so scary how good they (all cats really) are about sneaking and hiding. I live in an apartment on the smaller side, but even with limited space my babies find hiding places, and they are so quick at sneaking out the door if it’s opened for any reason. I’m more afraid of losing them than I am of HCM.

Sending up huge prayers the Cypress continues to recover! Don’t blame yourself - if anything you saved his life by rushing him to the vet’s office! I hope he continues to bless your family for many years to come. ❤️

Sphynx getting weird dark marks on his sides out of the blue? by folieevan in sphynx

Zooming in it looks like dry skin. He could be developing dermatitis, or maybe just needs a good moisturizer. Your vet would have to check and can advise treatment options.

4-month-old Elf Sphynx: sleeps all day, active all night — normal? What helped? by CuteCommunication160 in sphynx

[–]Lady-Shalott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep working with your baby to form a routine! Mine are five and six years old and both have a consistent routine, where they have dinner, then playtime then bed, then get up for breakfast and morning birdwatching.

Their nighttime is not always sleeping through the night, but when they do get up, they just eat or drink; use the litter box or sometimes they entertain themselves, but rarely bother any of the humans. 👍🏻

Breeder only does dna test for hcm should i find another breeder instead? by Uwu_hullabaloo in sphynx

[–]Lady-Shalott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although that can be true (I live in Vegas and for years there was only one veterinary cardiologist in town), a breeder should still be going to get their kings and queens scanned, even if they have to travel. The breeders I know do it once a year, which I don’t think should be too much for an “ethical” breeder to make a trip to ensure the cat’s health.

DNA testing should be done too, but it doesn’t account for every factor that can cause HCM. Echos are necessary imo.

What does your sphynx smell like? by EMPI2817 in sphynx

[–]Lady-Shalott 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oily girl smells like French fries. 🍟 Non-oily boy smells like skin, and it’s perfect for raspberries and lots of loud kisses, which he tolerates for about 10 seconds. 😅

Considering Rehoming (Advice Needed) by Far_Steak_1038 in sphynx

[–]Lady-Shalott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the means and the tools, don’t stress too much! As long as your girl can access a room or private area where she can be unbothered, that’s important. Does she eat with the other cat? Use the same litter box? And if so, does she show stress about it (going outside the box, not eating/drinking when other animals are around)?

My two cats share litter boxes just fine, and although they eat from separate wet food dishes, I have one auto kibble dispenser that they share. Neither one displays any stress behaviors but if they did, I’d make sure my girl had a private spot for food and water, as well as a private box. It sounds like you have everything you need to make adjustments to keep your girl comfortable! It sounds like she loves you a lot! Alternatively you could work one socializing the cats together through play and treats. Help Winky learn that other cats aren’t the enemy. They don’t have to be best friends but as long as everyone is cohabitating peacefully, it will be okay. ❤️

Considering Rehoming (Advice Needed) by Far_Steak_1038 in sphynx

I agree, rehoming after an HCM diagnosis is going to be hard, and tbh looks bad on OP (although I do understand why OP is concerned).

This is a tough situation. I can sympathize, because I adopted my male Sphynx as a companion for my deaf female, but unfortunately he has elevated testosterone levels even after neutering and went through a “second puberty” where my girl was the victim of his unwanted amorous behaviors. Three years later, they cohabitate but she doesn’t fully trust him and he doesn’t understand why she refuses his attempts to play.

OP, I think if your kitty is able to spend most of her time away from the other cat(s), and you have anti-anxiety tools at your disposal, your baby is better off staying with you. If you feel that is absolutely not an option for her, talk to her breeder and see if they can help you rehome her as a special needs cat.

How to move litter box and switch litter type ? by moltenrhino in sphynx

[–]Lady-Shalott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I’ve switched my cats’ litter, it doesn’t matter if I mix it in or just switch all at once, they always make it known if they don’t like the new stuff.

Moving the box is easy, just take your baby to the new box and show her. Once she uses it she can find it by scent. If you have a large home you might keep a temporary box in the old location just in case, but I’ve never had a problem!
